Hey energy smart guys, Is 10.4 cents per kwh for 12 months a better deal than 11.5 for 24 months? Anything you all see in your crystal balls that would make me lock in the longer period?
That's what I was going to say. Besides the rates though, my bias would be toward the shorter contract. Who knows when the company might piss you off with some incompetence. You won't want to wait another 15 months to stick it to them.
I'm with Tru energy, however the awesomeness of my deal is for the last two quarters I have been in credit, solar panels baby, at this rate will have a return on my investment in 4ish years

I heard they were cheap compared to others, but you better pay every bill on time. They will come cut your electricity 1 or 2 days after the due date if you are late. Don't ever be late with them. I am not sure if about the whole one year ordeal. I would call and check if the rates change afterwards.
You don't need all the salesmen. Just go to that power to choose site jay linked and sign up with what looks good to you. I went with a year long 9.9 rate. Made a huge difference in the winter months.
So, can anybody decipher the info at Powertochoose.com? I'd take the cheapest rate, locked in for the longest period, with a the most renewable component. Recommendations would be appreciated, just tell us if you are a pyramid marketer though.
First of all, it helps if you mention where you are. Offers will differ depending if you're in the Centerpoint or TXU (Oncor) areas, for example. I work for a really big electric provider, but we only supply large commercial & industrial customers. I have experience with Powertochoose from prior work though. You can filter on the offers to just show fixed rates (with or without renewable components), and then just sort by term. Personally, for my own residential service I tend to be wary of the smaller companies - which may often have slightly cheaper rates - simply because of how many of them performed during the credit crisis. Quite a few went out of business, leaving their customers to find new providers at inopportune buying times. You may have locked in a lower rate, but then found yourself out of a contract (not by choice) and then you had to find a new supplier when the power prices may have been higher. Not an ideal situation.
Check out Spark Energy. I've been using them for awhile. One of the cheapest and very good customer service so far.

Very HAPPY with Gexa. Great customer service, pretty cheap rates...much cheaper than what Reliant was offering.
Was that .09875 'All In' rate? If so, that is great! If not, you'll be paying .09875 for generation and another .0350 or so for T & D, totaling around .135, not so great
