That's gotta be one downside of being a sports star. When you are on the road how can you trust any food you get in a town that hates your guts?
Good post. I don't get the hate either. People can talk about sneaky elbows all they want, but if he'd been on our team everyone would be admiring that. Especially when you take into account he was possibly the most humble superstar in the history of the NBA.
...a long time ago. He's been retired for nearly a decade. Just seems odd to me that we're still calling him "the Enemy" when he walks into a restaurant with his family. There are so many players who are more hate-worthy. They're both up there. It's the difference between a dime and two nickels, really.
Olajuwon >> superstar than Stockton Olajuwon's statue most humble statue of all HOFers = Olajuwon more humble stuperstar
Yeah, dude despite his greatness walked away from the sport and all media attention for nearly a decade, and can't even now get a meal out with his family, in Montana of all places, without worrying about whether the waiter is going to take the piss out of him (or, as some would suggest, take a literal piss in his drink). The guy happened to be drafted by Utah and stayed loyal. I mean, come on. As for humility, Hakeem by the end of his career, hands down, yes. But a young Hakeem threw some 'bows, too. Olajuwon matured into his (elder) statesman status.
He played [basketball] for Utah, yes. He played basketball, the sport most of us claim to love, about as well as the game can possibly be played. And for that, he should have to worry about people defecating in his food for the rest of his life? You're telling me I should admire Bryce Drew's game more than John Stockton's, simply because of accident of draft position? That's ridiculous.
Yeah. One of my fondest memories of this great game of basketball was seeing Malone and Stockton retire without a ring. Only if Gary Payton could have given me the same. All that talk about peeing in his food was humor. Don't be ridiculous and take it seriously.
Where, exactly? If it makes you feel any better, I had the undrafted Matt Maloney written first, pretty much the definition of an overpaid/unqualified Rocket point guard, but couldn't think of a way to amend the "draft position" concept. Then I wrote "Rodrick Rhodes," but didn't want to wade into the field of race, so Bryce Drew it was. Dunno. Bill Laimbeer was every bit the injurious ---hole that K. Malone was. Feel better?
I wasn't calling you a racist, but my inclination was correct (comparing one white player to another).
The moving picks and the hooks into the chest of bigger players. Gave Hakeem an injury with an elbow into his chest. And his overall b****ing about fouls when he gets away with a lot of them. Karl was higher up on the cheap list, but we remember Stockton as the cheap little **** who got away with it more.
