i guess most of yall have never gone through a final with 4 graduate level math/stat exams before. those are like theory and application. you either don't care and fail them all or study all day/night and barely pass in them all, or you are a genious and get A in them all
i feel sorry for u guys... i have two finals and thier both take home and we are encouraged to work with other ppl. gluck guys
This is my M.S. that I am getting while working full time. I really wish I could relive those days, trust me.
ahhhh, the joys of finals week... as i have grown older i have learned that in order to succeed in school, you have to study ahead of time. meaning, on the first day of class you should have already read through the first 2-3 chapters of the textbook and gone through the in text practice problems... this way, you stay on top of the reading and homework, are able to get plenty of sleep, and when finals roll around, you dont have to stress out as much as the other students... well, goodluck guys...
Good. God. You're Batman! I still remember the spring semester of my freshman year in college (1992). The only day I had class before 11:00 in the morning was Tuesday which was my General Chemistry II lab. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, my first class started at 11 and Tuesdays and Thursdays, my first class started like at 1:30 in the afternoon. Somehow I still had like 16 hours. The only semester in which I had a 4.0. And also the only semester that I had where I stayed up, pretty much every night except Monday night, playing pinochle with my buddies in the dorm until 1 to 2 in the morning.
Sounds like good times. I've never had as little as 16 credit hours before now (15), plus I dropped my 2nd job, which puts me at 23 hours of work per week. 15 credits, 23 hours of work, and no needy fiancee is soooooo much better than 19 credits, 30 hours of work, and a needy fiancee. Ohhhhhh my it's nice. I get to actually live life, enjoy myself, and spend some money on ME! Woohoo! This is the easiest end of a semester I've ever had. It doesn't hurt that all the hard work paid off, either... I've got job offers raining on me. Still have to decide which one, then I have to decide if I feel like bothering to negotiate a little and jack up my salary.
Man, how do you do it? I'm taking 12 hours and working 25 hours a week and I already felt that I don't have any extra time to do anything else. I can't imagine doing 19 hours of school and 30 hours of work. I will be dead within a week.
This is exactly the way to go. I learned this back in middle school, however, I just dislike studying for the most part. That alone makes it hard to study sometimes.
Well, as I just posted in Manny's thread a couple minutes ago, I've been so busy for so long that at some point I actually got used to sleeping only 5 hours a night. So in a way I have 2-3 more hours to work with per day than most people. Besides that, here are a few tips. Maybe they're not for everyone, but they worked for me: 1. Always keep one day per week (for me it's usually Saturday) completely free. There's something to be said for spreading your workload out, but you absolutely must have one free day per week, or you'll go insane. 2. Have at least one hour of "me" time per day (can be spent with other people or alone, just as long as you're not doing work or thinking about work); prioritize this over sleep, always. That means that if you've been working alllll day and you have a choice between sleeping 5 hours or dicking around for 1 hour then sleeping for 4, do the latter. That one hour of un-productiveness will keep you sane, and make you more productive when you *are* working. Never go days at a time without taking time for yourself, no matter how much work you have. Never. 3. Take 15 minutes out of that one hour to meditate. Hokey? No, not really. Helpful. Very helpful. You probably won't notice a difference for quite awhile (a month or two, most likely), but if you keep at it, you'll find you're looking at things from an entirely new, healthier perspective. 4. Never do supplemental reading. I got through 3 straight years of 19 and 30 with this stuff just fine, and my GPA isn't even wrecked (3.2). The key is making sure to respect your need for "me" time; as long as I had that, I didn't mind too much that I was generally at work, in class, or working on projects basically every weekday from 8am-10pm. Fair warning though: very hard to maintain a relationship while working that much. I found that out the hard way.
This is really great advice. We are our own harshest taskmasters, so taking some time to take a breather and maintain your sanity will help you in the long run.
FOUR exams this week. I've stocked up on Monster Lo-Carb for these next 5 days. Can't wait for break. A month of doing nothing. I definetly learned this lesson too late this semester, but sure as hell going to do that next semester.
live it up bc working sucks! and stop procrastinating! stay on top of your work throughout the semester. and good luck! im sure yall will do fine.
Law school exams start Dec 10th. Each exam is 100% of my grade for the course. Sweet relief comes on the 19th.
At this point, I'm studying for pride. Got Managerial Accounting tomorrow at 2P. Doing some variance analysis and allocation based costing as we speak. What a load of crap. I guess this is what you get for not doing anything the whole semester.
