Do you like him? Do you think he is good? That douchebag Manny Ramirez and I were having a conversation about his merits. I said that his movie 8 Mile looked interesting, and that the director also directed LA Confidential. I said I was looking forward to seeing it. Manny then intelligently replied, "Eminem is a joke". NYKRule chimed in, "Did you see Glitter? Singers can't act." I would like to know what you, the BBS posters think about this.
i really enjoy his lyrics, as controversial as they may be... plus he makes so many references to current pop culture... i'm not offended by anything he says, but i can understand why others would be, especially in the extremely PC world in which we live.
I don't like much rap, but he's grown on me. I'm starting to like some of it and the stuff he does is just damn catchy. Sure, he's immature, but so are half of the other artists out there.
He's a ****head... He goes around pretending to be all tough and no one can stop me etc... and how no laws can hold him back...how society can't stop him doing what he wants... AND THEN he cries like a baby because some people copy his music via MP3. He is a corporate puppet.
I don't mind like.. 3 or 4 of his songs.. "Hailie's Song", "Square Dance", "White America".. and one more thing.. can't remember at the moment..
I don't know about Emenim. I mean, yeah he disses the pop stars. But really, who gives a ****? Hell, we all dis pop stars. Doesn't take a lot of balls. They aren't gonna fight back. He does tend to put a lot of thought into his lyrics and how they flow. So, for that I give him big props. This thing brewing between him, Jurmaine dupri, Dre, and Timbaland (Dre- "What You Say", "JD's reply") should prove very interesting though. I hope Luda gets involved somehow.
I've always wondered whether it's the artist or the fans or both that are the puppets. In any case, in terms of rapping ability, I think he's awesome. It's been a while since I've heard anybody flow like Eminem. There are so many "artists" out there trying to rap that can't and still sell records. His "Without Me" cut is awesome and had me hooked from the moment I heard it. His lyrical skills combined with Dre's background production is fun to listen to.
I will say that the movie looks pretty decent, and the fact that Curtis Hanson (Wonder Boys, L.A. Confidential) is directing makes it look even better.
Like Jeff said, some of his stuff has great hooks and is catchy... He even rips on VP Cheney in his single Without Me...
Em is wack. Flava of the month white boy. His lyrics are ok at best. . . . .but now i have to contend with a million folx from idaho telling me he is the most influential rapper of all time. [BTW I don't diss him cause he white. . . i diss him cause he wack .. . . HE'S no Third Bass ] Rocket River Just give me some Public Enemy, Ghetto Boys and Pharcyde
You don't diss him because he's white, but you say "flava of the month white boy" and use Idaho as an example of a state you don't want to hear an opinion from? Flava of the month...hasn't he been popular for well over three years now? That's a long month.
Eminem is what he is, he doesn't want to be changed for the world. I for one am going to see 8 mile for that reason.
Ok, cool. The most respected musician on the boards agrees with me, and the only paid movie critic does too. Sweet.
Because he is. If Eminem was not white. . he would not be on the charts. . .to beleive otherwise is . . well naive Everyone has a gimmick . . being white is one of his [being 'crazy' etc is another one] I use Idaho mainly because mainstream america esp those places from major metropolitian areas get pre-wrapped processed music. Because of their geographical location the music that reaches them is prefilter. For instance. KRBE 104 in houston plays top 40. By time a black song reaches their listeners it is already at least a month old. If it doesn't hit MTV . . it won't hit Top 40 So the music that makes it to IDAHO is usually - MTV promoted crap that is not representative of the totallity to Rap and Hip Hop. So . . .someone from that position of not hearing alot of hip Hop saying something like BLAH BLAH BLAH is the most influential artist of all time would be like someone from Mars saying MatchBox 20 is the best Rock group of all time .. . and all they ever heard was MAtchbox 20 and Blink 182. [not saying on is better but .. . opinions differ] Rocket River
If i had to guess what kind of actor Em will be. . . I'd say look at Ja Rule in Fast and the Furious Rocket River "MEEEEEENNNNNAAAAGGGGGEEEEEEEE!!!" - Ja Rule in Fast and the Furious
I don't listen to EM but don't have any reason to hate on him. As far as him being a "white boy", I got to give him props for being the first with staying power since Beastie. I rather put up with a silly "white" rapper with some lyrical skill, than the crap coming out of H-town and Nawlins.
