Eminem is an awesome lyricist. He sold out, but he came up as well reknown battle rapper. I know he does go off the edge when his radio songs but he has released some very moving tracks and on a technical level, he wrecks on all his diss tracks.

Big and Pac are great rappers that made an impact on the industry. IMO, Big is the better lyricist but Pac tells a better story. But you have guys like Eyedea, Slug (Atmosphere), Canibis, Chino XL, etc. that would lyrically slaughter Big/Pac. Only difference is that Big/Pac have the name recognition and the album sales...and I guess thats what makes them the greatest.

    Couple of things here....

Tupac and Biggie were very well known when they were alive, but they became LEGENDS after their deaths. They were already on their way to becoming all time greats, but the East vs. West war and their deaths made them legendary.

Many people dislike Eminem because of his funny crap he does on every CD. However, if you listen to every single one of his CDs, there are songs filled with deep lyrics. He is by far one of the top lyricists of all time and I consider him in my top 5.

Tupac and Biggie weren't even that great with wordplay. They were the 2 most influential rappers though. Lupe has some of the sickest rhymes out their and is probably the most lyrically gifted rapper ever, but nobody ever considers him in their top 5.

    Anyway, my ever-changing fav 5:

    1) Jay-Z
    2) Eminem
    3) Nas
    4) Tupac
    5) Z-Ro

I am Australian, and Tupac reached me.

If that doesnt prove he had an effect then I can't help you.

Run DMC shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Tupac or Biggie.

I hate to say it but their lyrics always came off as elementary to me.

Just maybe, because they were the very first?

Run DMC absolutely deserves to be in the same sentence...

This is foolish... why is Tupac and Biggie even being discussed in this thread?

Two totally different styles of music... Eminem is mostly a comedic rapper... with his own way of rapping...

Pac and Biggie were genuine traditional straight-up rappers...

You can't compare two dislike things.. even if they are in the same genre.

Dont worry i've been around long enough to not take FFB's sharp tongue seriously.

BTW - I like Eminem, got 3-4 of his albums, and the latest one is dope. The lyrics are WRONG, but that's how he rolls and he knows how to get attention.

    Good luck to him.

Not sure his act isnt tiring just a bit though.

Good tunes, but he need shock value to elevate himself.

That was sick. Eminem should come out with more songs like this, instead of the goofy songs hes had out lately..

Fatty, you're becoming too repetitive and predictable. There has got to be at least 5 threads already where you proclaim that Biggy and Pac were mediocre rappers who ripped off the old school, originators of rap. We get it, you like Run DMC, PE, and NWA...now please shut up about it already because nobody has agreed with your assessment of Big/Pac in any of the threads you've denigrated them in.

He didn't pick on Nick Cannon... Nick Cannon was talking trash about Emeniem and how he could f him up and stuff... that's what instigated this.

You guys arguing with Fatty about hip-hop don’t know who you’re dealing with. It just so happens that he is the bbs’s quintessential hip-hop aficionado. He brings a world of experience to the table, including sidelining as a country singer and being *world famous* for saying he hated U2 and REM in high school and college.

I would advise you all to choose your words carefully.. and indeed... to check-it-tee check yo self... before you wreck yo self.

    Word.
