Immortal technique could not crack the scene, while all this garbage was getting major play. It was a perfect missed opportunity.
No need. Off the bat I'd give it to most Wu members because that is what they do, where they began. Canibus would definitely bring it. However Immortal Technique pens better songs. That said, here are the first two I could find. Immortal Technique vs. Ghostface & Raekwon. Wu goes first. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5b4UcYJ0oEM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5b4UcYJ0oEM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Now, IT. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PpXCYyw5RtM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PpXCYyw5RtM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Judge for yourself.
Or more accurately, he just doesn't care about cracking the scene. Rather than sell out to the mainstream teenagers, he maintains control of his music so he can say what he wants to. You call it a missed opportunity, others might call it controlling your own destiny.
Ain't that the truth. If he was mainstream he wouldn't be able to speak these words: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DVL4IAKA9Lc&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DVL4IAKA9Lc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Dude, I meant a freestyle battle vs each other not different freestyles on different occasions. immortal <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8gCwSSzFAp4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8gCwSSzFAp4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
talib kweli and nas beg to differ, but to each his own. Eminem has the best performance, but kweli has the best lyrics, and nas is in between on both
F**k! If Immortal Technique didn't want to crack the mainstream why did he appear on BET's 106 and Park? I.T. IS NOT UNDERGROUND. Not to mention, he lost his battle agains Posterboy. He's a decent lyricist that like to talks about what he saw on Michael Moore documentaries and Zeitgeist. He doesn't say anything that hasn't been said before and he's not even subjective about it. Anyone notice how half of his punchline revolves around dead babies and bodily fluids?
So he lost a rap battle on BET. Why you gotta be bringin up old **** (2005)? Is Posterboy mainstream because he was on the show? How about any of the other rappers that have won multiple times? Me thinks not. So I.T. lost. He's also known for winning lots of battles in the scene. Either way, all these guys have lost at some point. I hardly call a 1 minute rap battle on BET an automatic transformation to mainstream. I.T. has had the opportunity to be on a major label and turned it down to keep control of his music. Tell me, I'm interested to know what you consider underground? Seriously now, I'm not trying to say he is the GOAT or anything like that. I just like what he brings and how he brings it, rather than the recycled stuff that (what I consider) mainstream labels force down our throats or that one's that just babble nonsense because it rhymes.
First, its not about him losing the battle. Its about him being on a show on BET. If he didn't care about cracking the mainstream, why appear on the show? BET is generally regarded by scholars as a channel that perpetuates the negative black culture and stereotypes through their programming of movies, shows and mainstream rap music. Something I.T always raps against. Second. I don't believe what I.T says about being approached by a major label but turned them down because they asked him to censor his music. If a major label executive approached him, its because he knew what I.T rapped about. I don't think they would approach a political rapper and tell him to rap about b****es and hoes. Even if they censored him a bit, wouldn't it be in his best interest as a "guerilla revolutionist" to speak to the masses even if some of the things that he says gets censored? And finally, I'm not trying to say he's a bad rapper. He's better than 90% of what is out there. But he's really self indulgent and he doesn't really say anything unique. For someone who says he hacked CIA computers, I would expect to hear real Illuminati secrets and not well known conspiracy theories.
