In the latest Zogby poll in Iowa:

    Clinton: 28
    Obama: 25
    Edwards: 21

Looks up in the air, and you've probably got 15% that are still undecided. I'd be shocked if those went to Hillaroid, given that people already know what she is all about (scandal and failure).

He also has something in common with about 70% of Americans who have repeatedly signaled that Iraq is the most important issue to them. He and they want an end to this stupid war. On that, he and they are in line with every single Dem candidate and out of line with every single Republican except Ron Paul. You can call that partisan if you want. I call it mainstream.

But then again, your political instincts are absolutely horrendous. What you think will work typically doesn't.

i think i would. if hes honest and will do what is right for america, then thats better than a corrupt christian president.

but i dont think hed have a realistic chance of winning bc he would have a hard time winning votes in the south and rural states.

how many american muslim politicians are out there anyways?

And yours are stellar. You told us all going to war in Iraq would go great and you were SO RIGHT!!! Oh, wait a minute...

Do you actually think that my support for Howard Dean and my enthuiasm about him leading the field at one point is actually comparable to you being wrong about, let's see... Everything else?

There is not one single poster on this board that takes you seriously. Worse, you're not even funny anymore.

I fully expect the party elite to pick a guy and line up behind him.., just like they always do... and it is looking like Rudy, now that Fred is dead.

Whether they can take a bunch of voters along remains to be seen.

In the meantime, the suburbs are flaming out under foreclosures, increased gas prices, and an inability to make ends meet while living the lifestyle they were told they could live.

Republicans spent the better part of a quarter-century telling the middle class that they could live like the rich... nice cars, big foyers, garden tubs... and so they ought to vote like the rich. Now, many of those suburban Repubs are realizing that they were lied to and used... just as many Christians are starting to see that they were used.

If social conservatives are willing to overlook Rudy's stance on abortion and gays, don't you think they could do the same for a Dem who might actually help them out?

You are just so incredibly out of touch with reality. Does the above fantasy scenario represent your actual view of the US economy, or is that just wishful thinking?

There are 20,000 vacant houses in metro Phoenix alone.

    I'm out of touch?

Last night, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors went from 6 Repubs, 2 Indies and 1 Dem to 2 Repubs, 2 Indies and 5 Dems and Virginia as a whole was favorable to Dems largely because of increased Dem strength in the suburbs.

And we haven't even really talked about the war. Or health care.

all of the democratic candidates want to end the iraq war?

    kucinich does, but who else?

when asked at a recent debate, how many of the democratic candidates pledged to have all troops out by the end of their first term in 2013?

the democratic leadership is just as out of touch with the american people as bush is when it comes to iraq.

EDIT: richardson said he would have all the troops home by the end of his first year. dodd said by the end of his term. obama, clinton nor edwards would commit to that, despite the fact that it is what the vast majority of america wants.

I didn't like the 2013 answer either, but the difference between every single Dem and every single Republican (except Paul) is that every single Dem is committed to getting troops out of Iraq as soon as possible -- not as predicated by some vague and unacheivable definition of "success" but as predicated by what they each regard to be a responsible extracting of troops from a horrible morass of a situation.

Nobody has been more opposed to this war than I have been, but I find Richardson's promise of zero troops in Iraq within a year or whatever to be insanely irresponsible and unrealistic. It is a bad, bad scene over there and leaving and pretending it doesn't exist or that we don't have a responsibility (as the country that caused it) not to leave it in the worst possible situation will not work.

Of course, you have proven that even a radical liberal like myself can be made to look like a fuddy duddy warmonger, so I'm not surprised that you would say there is no difference between the D's and the R's. You're a liberal obviously, but I get the feeling you'd be much more comfortable cheering for LaRouche than Wellstone.

What do you expect? basso only has two responses to getting schooled - make a joke about it or run away. He doesn't care to actually debate anything.

LOL, citing evidence from a few dramatically over-built cities and then citing some anecdotal sob stories from selected individuals is HARDLY a proxy for the economic health of the country. Get a clue, libs... Check your 401(k) portfolio lately? The market had a bad day today, but we are at quite lofty levels. The libs must be hating that. They also must be hating how few people are unemployed these days... or how corporate earnings have been strong... or how few corporate defaults there have been on debt... I could go on and on. Life is tough for the naysayers and success-haters!

I truly hope your thinking represents that of the elites in the Republican Party. If so, Dems should have no problem reaching 60+ in the Senate to go along with a new president.
