Thank you for that. My absolute favorite Billy Joel song ever, with some of the greatest lyrics ever written: They say that these are not the best of times But they're the only times I've ever known And I believe there is a time for meditation In cathedrals of our own Now I have seen that sad surrender in my lovers' eyes I can only stand apart and sympathize For we are always what our situations hand us It's either sadness or euphoria And so we'll argue and we'll compromise And realize that nothing's ever changed For all our mutual experience Our separate conclusions are the same Now we are forced to recognize our inhumanity A reason coexists with our insanity And so we choose between reality and madness It's either sadness or euphoria How thoughtlessly we dissipate our energies Perhaps we don't fulfill each other's fantasies So we stand upon the ledges of our lives With our respective similarities It's either sadness or euphoria
Better than We didn't start the fire? I defy you to find a song that infuses Lawrence of Arabia so seamlessly into it better.
We Didn't Start the Fire is the second worst song in the history of Rock and Roll, surpassed in suckiness only by We Built This City.

Been on a huge Elton John kick for the last few months. Currently listening to his self-titled album; before that Captain Fantastic; before that Madman Across the Water; before that GB Yellow Brick Road; before that Tumbleweed Connection; before that Honky Chateau. Favorite song of his right now is Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.
i think we need to have a debate on whether Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters or Summer, Highland Falls, is the better song. <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.lala.com/external/flash/SingleSongWidget.swf" id="lalaSongEmbed" width="220" height="70"><param name="movie" value="http://www.lala.com/external/flash/SingleSongWidget.swf"/><param name="wmode" value="transparent"/><param name="allowNetworking" value="all"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><param name="flashvars" value="songLalaId=432627077923290838&host=www.lala.com&partnerId=membersong"/><embed id="lalaSongEmbed" name="lalaSongEmbed" src="http://www.lala.com/external/flash/SingleSongWidget.swf" width="220" height="70" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" wmode="transparent" allowNetworking="all" allowScriptAccess="always" flashvars="songLalaId=432627077923290838&host=www.lala.com&partnerId=membersong"></embed></object><div style="font-size: 9px; margin-top: 2px;"><a href="http://www.lala.com/song/432627077923290838" title="Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters - Elton John" target="_blank">Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters - E...</a></div>
I'm no Elton fan, really, but he does have some classics, and is a talented performer and songwriter. Anything of his that I can appreciate happened BEFORE 'I'm still standing' though. QFT. This may be the first basso post with which I've ever agreed. If it were impossible to screw it up, he couldn't have done so that readily. and that other "you got what I need" is absolutely terrible. This is beyond incorrect, regardless of subjectivity being an issue. I won't even start making the obvious list of examples to prove it. And while you later state that age has nothing to do with it, I too wondered when reading this just how old you might be. Out of curiosity, how do you feel about the bizmarkie song and rendition mentioned above? My first guess is that you think they are "the shizzle."
This may come as a shock to you but I don't give a flip about your rebuttal to my statement. Hope that meets your standard requirements for an answer.
I like Elton. If u would take a poll, alot of black people like him from his days with patti labelle and really just his smooth sound. He's gay, but that doesnt have anything to do with his music.
I didnt mind his 80's stuff at all. I'm Still Standing, Thats Why They Call it The Blues, Sad Songs, etc. Thats What Friends Are For, one of the greatest collabos in history. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGbnua2kSa8&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGbnua2kSa8&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This album version dedicated to basso. <object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r_l_runP4-Q&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r_l_runP4-Q&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object> (I don't think he get "The Biz.")
It's ok, if I were that wrong, I'd keep my response close to the vest as well. Never mind, you don't have to say. As I said, I was just curious.
Oh, and whichever individuals said Billy Joel and Elton John were terrible and the 70's music was horrible, I've got one word for you. Pompatus. End of argument. Cheap Trick's At Budokan smokes 98% of the CDs out there, including the 60s, 80s, and 90s, so that 70's argument doesn't wash. Absolutely ridiculous.
