The Byrds didn't just influence Dylan, they also were on the forefront of the country-rock and later y'allternative scenes. "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" is absolutely perfect. I also like their trippy 60's stuff like "Eight Miles High." Roger McGuinn was an ace guitarist. I saw him at Rockefellers in the 90's and he was brilliant. Comment on Elton's comments: he has better taste in music the he does in hair pieces. That red Little Lord Fauntleroy wig he used to wear was appalling. At least have the courtesy to close the eyes of the poor animal when you wear it, Elton!
This is genius? "Got pissed off and ripped Pamela Lee's t*** off And smacked her so hard I knocked her clothes backwards like Kris Kross I smoke a fat pound of grass and fall on my ass faster than a fat b**** who sat down too fast" I mean, it's the most random gibberish. Not to mention is ho physics are way off. A fat b**** and a skinny b**** both fall at the same rate. Before people get all up in arms, I'm talking about Em, not all rap in general.
Flyer, Buy "The Bends" - a QUANTUM leap from "Pablo Honey" in quality of songs and songwriting. Every song on there is a classic like "High and Dry", "Fake Plastic Trees", "Bends", and one of my all-time favorite songs by them in "Black Star". "OK Computer" is their best album but probably a little heavy for a newbie. I would get it next though if you really like "The Bends". Of course, neither one of those albums are my favorite - that one is "Kid A" but that is their techno rock masterpiece.
Your age blinds you for the great musician he is. How many rap songs have you listened to. The beats are incredible and lyrics are the best in music. You old people....
It's funny (usually in a mean and not-so-good way). The lyrics are clever (again, in that nasty sense), but I don't see it being revolutionary in a musical sense. Maybe Elton just thinks he's cute.
Eminem is a pissed off angry little whiney b!tch. And why does he where a wave towell? Isn't that for a different hair type?
You are right EXCEPT you forgot that I also have talked about: Miles Davis Queen The Who Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Radiohead The Cure Bob Dylan Classical Music Rush Techno/electronic Music NIN New Order etc etc
If they're gonna add rap and hip hop to this list, the least that they could do is give credit to the first innovative lyricists, like: Africa Bambaataa, KRS-One and especially Rakim.
Nah I think it's more stuff like this: "They say music can alter moods and talk to you But can it load a gun for you and **** it too? Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude Just tell the judge it was my fault, and i'll get sued" or "Lyrics lyrics constant controversy Sponsors workin round the clock To try to stop my concerts early Surely hip hop is never a problem In Harlem only In Boston After it bothered ya fathers of daughters startin to blossom Now i’m catchin the flack from these activists When they raggin Actin like im the 1st rapper to smack a b**** and say f*****" or "Now in the Bible it says Thou shalt not watch two lesbians in bed, Have homosexual sex Unless of course you were given the consent to join in Then of course, it's intercourse And it's bi-sexual sex Which isn't as bad, as long as you show some remorse for your actions" Eminem is successful because he usually comes out with a catchy, funny and stupid song as his the first single (slim shady, The real slim shady, without me and just lose it) to get it played on the radio constantly and make the song stick in people's heads. Then he comes with something much more introspective or deep as the second single (Guilty conscience, Stan, White America/Cleaning out my closet, and Mosh) that gives him longevity and critical acclaim.
Eminem's best song: _________ I never meant to give you mushrooms girl I never meant to bring you to my world Now your sitting in the corner crying And now it's my fault my fault Would you calm down you're startin to scare me. she said " I'm twenty-six years old and I'm not married. I don't have any kids and I can't cook" I'm over here Sue, (hi) you're talkin to the plant, look! We need to get to a hospital 'fore it's too late Cause I never seen no-one eat as many shrooms as you ate.
I would take E over Pink Floyd any day quit living in the past. I have listened to them both and i know you old timers are gonna **** your suspenders but he got me into rap and some of these lyrics are just unreal added with the beats.Listen to Tupac as well that is just amazing. I would average rock is much better than average rap artist but a great rapper is on another level like Rap's MVP and i aint goin nowhere so you can get to know me.
Yes, I can see that listening to those artists have already taken effect. fadeaway or SwoLy - got another post for you to go bonkers on!
I dont get how listening to Pink Floyd is living in the past? Its all preference, a lot of people listen to stuff they grew up to, others like myself just like older stuff, i'm not a real fan of hip hop, i listen to newer rock not just classic, especially through middle school and high school, until about my junior year in high school, i got into classic rock and i love it. If listening to Pink Floyd is living in the past, does that mean in 15-20 years listening to Eminem would be living in the past? Good music survives the test of time, its not just people living in the past
Eminem sucks. He's a shock rapper now... all he does is tries real real hard to say something "controversial" to make money. When he was underground, he was much much better. There are so many rappers out there right now that are better than Eminem ever were... but they don't sell out the way he did. ie. Talib Kweli Mos Def The Roots Common Sense The whole "strong arm steady crew" and a whole lot more.
I've been listening to High and Dry like you and Zac suggested, and it seriously is about the 5th time I have played it, love that song, Black Star is growing on me too, thanks for the suggestions Manny and Zac
