Then just apply the star type contract to potential star player (rookie player) and give Elton the rookie type contract, if that makes sense. Even though you're that desperate for the huge payroll cut and you have a taker I still wouldn't do it if I were Philly. I would take the pill if we had our potential star player picked out of the crop and pegged as our number one choice at 2.
Turner would start @ the 2 after about 3 weeks. Martin would be perfect off the bench as an offensive spark plug. Turner improves the defense of our backcourt considerably and the kid can flat out score.
What?!?! That's even dumber than some of the people wanting to bench Brooks in favor of Lowry. Why the hell would you want a rook as your starting shooting guard? Wouldn't it be a tad bit smarter to have your 10 million dollar veteran shooting guard that knows the offense start and your brand new fresh out of college player come off the bench instead? The logic of some of you guys really puzzles me, seriously.
I don't see Morey doing this. He is all about 'good value' contracts. Carroll Dawson would jump all over it. The Rockets are finally at a point where they have ZERO bad contracts and all of sudden they jump into one of the worst in the league? Don't see it happening. I'm sure Morey inquired about the #2 pick, he probably has called every single team in the NBA right now to see what was available, picks and player-wise.
Although I agree with you that ET will be better than Martin in his prime eventually I don't seeing it happening as quickly as you do. How many rookies have made such a smooth transition even from being a 4 year college player into the NBA? He will be better than Kevin but not immediately.
He's a markedly better defender right now, and you'll quickly find that his offensive skills don't need a whole lot of work.
See your assumption is EVERYONE is willing to slave away in a crappy team like Minny just to play in the NBA. The reality is very few foreign bball players see the value in going to America just to play when they are already stars in their country and already make a lot of money. Spanoulis is a wrong example because he actually came here. Fran Vazquez and that kid the Spurs have the rights to are better examples, and also prove that Lull's attitude isn't as stubborn as foreigners can get. In the case of Vazquez, he was offered both a starting job AND a chance to go to one of the better teams in the NBA (disney world ftw!). As a lottery pick he would be making pretty good money, and basketball wise he would be playing beside future best c in the league DH. Yet he still turned the Magic down. Same with the Spur's kid (forgot his name). Offer to play beside Tim Duncan and one of the NBA's best teams? Yeah, he'll sit out his rookie years first then sign for a full mid-level. It is this uncertainty that makes Rubio's value not as high as you think. Sure he'll be coming to the NBA, however what if he doesn't like the team that he was traded to (like Memphis for example)? What's to prevent him from sitting out until he gets traded to a team he likes for the amount he likes? Would you be willing to commit 5 mill to a player you haven't seen play in the NBA? I repeat Rubio's value is worth a potential lottery pick in 2012 and an upgrade in pick. His earllest time of coming here is on 2012 as well anyway, so losing Rubio two years from now should be worth a 1st round two years from now and an upgrade of your pick NOW. As for Philly, it's not a great deal, however we're the Houston Rockets not the Sixers. What we should be concerned about is just making the deal good enough that they bite, not creating a deal that's great for them. How is C-bud becoming a star stretching it? He has playmaking ability, hops and a working shot. He doesn't have any offcourt issues, plays hard and has above average BBall IQ. The tools and potential are there. Sure he probably won't make the all star soon, however its not a stretch to think he can reach "mini stars" like J-rich or KM or Ben Gordon.
It's kind of hard to rebuild when you get rid of the 2nd draft pick. If they get rid of Brand, they would be down to $20 mil, and lost out on the 2nd pick? The only way that they do better, is if they score the #1 pick. Are they putting their hopes on scoring the #1 pick and the 2012 free agent class? I would rather rebuild with Evan Turner than hoping to score the #1.
Even though the Randolph and #6 talk has died down, it still doesn't dismiss the fact that it is still a better deal than this one.
Say, you know what would be really great? A link, or maybe a quote... what exactly did the Timberwolves say?
espn warriors/wolves trade talk Sources: Randolph part of trade talks * Email * Print * Comments8 By Chris Broussard ESPN.com Archive The Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors have had discussions about a trade that would send forward Anthony Randolph to the Timberwolves, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the talks. Anthony Randolph A. Randolph No trade is imminent, but the Timberwolves have strong interest in acquiring the 20-year-old Randolph. The Warriors, who own the sixth pick in this year's NBA draft, would like to move up to get a higher selection. Minnesota has the fourth pick. The 6-10 Randolph, who left LSU after one season, played only 33 games last season, averaging 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. In December, ESPN.com reported that the Warriors had interest in dealing Randolph and that the team and representatives of Randolph had met to discuss concerns over Randolph's playing time. The team reportedly was unhappy with his maturity. "If Golden State wants to trade Anthony, we're not opposed to that," his agent, Bill Duffy, said in December. "He hasn't asked for or demanded a trade, but if the Warriors feel it would be beneficial to them to trade him, we wouldn't be opposed to that at all." Golden State has asked a high price for Randolph in the past. A team source said that continues to be the case. Minnesota is high on Randolph and has been monitoring his offseason workouts in Dallas, his hometown. Randolph, who weighed 210 pounds last season, has added 20 pounds of muscle, according to two sources. The discussions between the two clubs took place last week when several teams, including the Warriors, sent representatives to Minnesota to watch 42 potential draft picks work out at the Timberwolves' practice facility.
LOL. It's the one that says, "insert hyperlink" when you hover over it. The first box that comes up, you enter the text. The next box, you enter the link, which starts with http. Sorry for the, er, expressed frustration. You reminded me of my ex-wife, except when you told us nothing in 8 words, she would have said nothing in 5000.
Elton Brand has been called BEAST many times during his career but his game is no longer beastly, aged 31, having played 10 seasons and having major injuries along the way. Taking on this type of financial burden belongs more to the era of CD than of the smart wizardry of the Morey era. Sooner see it being used in a three way to get us Bosh or CP3!
