I believe that he was in the wrong system and that the Sixers never really used him to his potential. I could see him flourishing with the Rockets.
man we already have a massive contract with Martin but man I think Id eat Brands contract cuz Turner reminds me a heck of alot of Brandon Roy but taller, longer and a better defender imo.. but one thing that scares the hell outa me is his health with his vertebrae possibly breakin on him
He can actually contribute...its not total dead money. Not to mention, youre getting a superstar potential player in Turner. The future would be set, despite the massive contract for Brand. And keep in mind, the last year of Brand's contract will be a HUGE asset to our team.
I agree his explosion and quickness isn't what it used to be but I think it's still there especially in short spurts. What made him a special player being able to play both ends of the court more so than quickness/explosion was his knowledge/feel for the game and his uber long arms. I don't think he forgot how to play and I don't think his arms shrunk either. A change of scene will do the guy wonders.
I agree. If the Rockets are looking to win now, why not get a proven veteran in Brand with a unproven rookie in Turner. If they were able to keep Hill and Budinger then the future and the present seem pretty damn good to me. I mean you could argue that Brand is also injury prone but if his minutes are limited by playing the back up role to Yao then both Yao and Brand would benefit from the limited minutes.
If we could, I'd give them the #14 for Brand and #2. Because of salary matching, I'd be willing to throw in a package of players that added up to a wash, i.e., some decent player, some with bad contracts that would add by subtraction. Unfortunately, we don't have bad contracts to throw in. So, from our POV, since our matching salaries are all good contracts, we have to get something additonal out of the deal. Probably, one decent young player, and they do have some. Or, we could make it a three-way deal with a team that has some bad contracts...
"If" we get the 2nd overall pick I would look to draft either Cousins C or Favors PF/C, both of whom have a much higher ceiling than Turner IMO, who reminds me of a poor man's Brandon Roy ... --RB
No way. Far too risky. Elton Brand would be a late T-Mac situation. Paying him millions for minimum minutes. As far as Evan Turner, no doubt he has talent, but is he right for this houston offense who is seeking a 4 spot? Not another gaurd.
May just have contradicted myself. If the Rockets work him out and decide he IS a valuable asset who still has something left in the tank, he could be useful. And also could be a possible mentor to Luis!
Morey never said he would draft Turner with the #2 pick. For all I know he could pick Favors or Cousins or maybe even Johnson.
There are only two players that might be worth taking on that albatross contract: Wall and Turner. Wall automatically qualifies, but I'd really rather have Turner with one big IF -- if he can play PG as well as any point guard we have right now. If so, Turner gives us a 6-6 (without shoes) PG who can shoot close up or with range and stretch the defenses for Yao, Martin and Chase. Ariza and Brooks would have more slash and burn room as would Scola and Hill. The only silver lining to Brand's contract would be his expiring contract ... about the time Morey retires.
elton is probably worth about 8 mill/year. so essentially we would be paying $20 for the number #2 draft pick plus whoever we trade for.
The only reason I would go for the #2 overall pick its for the value other teams have for it...for example Minny really wants to move up to get their hands on Evan Turner, but aren't willing to take on Brand's contract...that's where we can help ... Its just like I posted in the other thread, I would maximize the amount of incoming talent If were going to take on Brand's contract....
