It'll fail like all the others. People go on about how 'woke'ness isn't popular but you know what is even more unpopular? Anti-wokeness. People really aren't that interested in edgelord takes. Most people get on twitter to just talk about casual stuff, movies, games, cat pictures, makeup, etc etc
actually most people don't get on twitter https://www.statista.com/statistics...ly-active-twitter-users-in-the-united-states/
In comparison to other websites, not the population. Concurrent numbers that represent a time period never tell the full story either, btw, as the monthly users for this same number would be around double that. Now imagine yearly? it's one of the top 10 websites in the world. It's only competitors are Facebook and Instagram and Tik tok, I suppose, and all these sites have the same rules (as does this BBS) for a reason. A wild wild west platform sounds good on paper...until you visit 4chan and realize how horrible an idea it is.
point remains, with 37-ish million daily users out of 330 million Americans, "most people don't get on twitter." And when one considers that something like 10% of Twitter users produce 80% of the tweets, even less people don't get on twitter
The point doesn't remain, any company is small when you compare it to the total population. No company is selling their product to 50% of the country or whatever would qualify as 'most'. Also, don't be dishonest or reread the statement. I never said, "Most people get on twitter." I said, quoting here... So the point isn't and never was that most of the population gets on twitter...most people in the country don't watch the NBA, NFL, or whatever, these are still massively popular things. Twitter is a behemoth on the internet, only a fool would deny that, and it didn't get that way by being the wild wild west like some want it to be. That already exists, it's called 4chan, and it, in comparison, is nothing next to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Tik Tok.
Sure...but we're talking about twitter lol...it goes without saying that anyone that gets on twitter is a twitter user. Either way, the actual point still stands. The 'anti-woke' alt websites have all been failures, none have caught on. People don't log on to social media websites to get insulted by anime avatars, the reason these companies do what they do is because it is profitable. Anti-wokeness just isn't profitable. A big reason or a reason people leave twitter, something you will always hear from ex-twitter users is basically 'Too negative' because the normal everyday person is likely wanting to spend their free time doing things that will make them happy, not sad or angry. If Elon were to buy twitter people would leave or he'd be force to have the same TOS that would get enforced the same way...and if he made an alternative, it too will fail, which was the point. The fact is, people don't like trolls and tend to want to avoid them. No matter how small you think Twitter is, it's still at the top of the mountain, which you can't say for the new twitter-like websites that have tried to replace it.
This actually goes into how/why Twitter bans people and that their leniency always favor the checkmarks or celebs. As you mentioned, most twitter users don't actually post on twitter. They use it to follow news, companies, celebs they like who post on twitter. Twitter can be a good tool for someone looking for quick news updates, as we know when it comes time to the trade deadline... That is not to say Twitter won't ban accounts with a lot of followers (obviously they have before) but usually when they do it has more to do with targeting a specific person and concerns of 'brigading' because that can be pretty serious...but it is very rare for them to permanently ban large accounts, and most of the ones that are banned people can name off the top of their head. Milo and Trump come to mind.
Tesla stock is going to split Woke communists who don't invest in the stock market can always invest in Russia or North Korea @Os Trigonum
Anti-wokeness is profitable depending on how it's consumed, and nobody wants to switch to other "free speech" platforms because it lacks content and engagement. The only way Twitter will ever get dethroned is with an actual better product, and not some copy cat tech.
The reason it lacks content and engagement though is because people aren't joining a platform where the first thing you see is open racism that would make the KKK blush. There won't be any 'libs' to own because they'll stay away, so there won't be any back and fourth which social media platforms thrive on, they thrive on arguments, not echo chambers. You are right a better product would dethrone twitter, I don't like the argument that some have that it is too big to fail, it really isn't. Websites rise and fall all the time, it's not like Tik Tok was even a thing 10 years ago for example. The problem with those new sites is exactly that though. They quickly become echo chambers. I remember when Gab launched the first thing anyone would see was a bunch of "JEWS RUN THE WORLD!" and more n-words than an NWA song. No one is sticking around for that stuff.
