Ellis Johnson was just released by the Colts. Apparently, he didn't feel like he fit into Tony Dungy's new defense. He wants to be on the field more than he would be in a rotation system.

Do you think the Texans should pursue him? Would he fit into our 3-4 system and be happy?

I think it would be a good move to try and acquire him. I don't know how much of a shot we would have, but I think he'd make a great nose tackle and perhaps DE if he needed to.

    What do you think?

    Wow, that's a bit of a shocker!

I think the Texans should/will scoop him up. He's an underachiver, yet he's better than what they have now.

Why couldn't they release Dwight Freeney, Larry Triplett, or Edgerrin James?! :D

    He asked to be released.

From his agent, taken from espn.com:

The Texans should scoop him up in a hurry. Problem is, lots of teams will be after him.

The Texans should also be looking for a RB and some offensive lineman on the waiver wire after the last cuts are made by teams. With Boselli and Young out, we need to protect Carr from getting injured. Without a running game teams will be blitzing the heck out of us.

No doubt! From the little I've seen of the Texans, their running game is non-existent.

keep in mind this last week they faced a terrific run defense in Miami...also keep in mind they have hugely significant injuries on the offensive line right now...but James Allen shouldn't be starting...that honor should go to Jonathan Wells, who has done a much better job running the football so far.

Well, I know Jason Brookins was just cut by the Packers because of a misunderstanding between he and management. Apparently, he got a note from the coaching staff telling him to come see them and to bring his playbook. Assuming he was cut, he just packed his things up and left without going to see the coaches. In actuality, the coaching staff just wanted to add some plays to his playbook. When they finally got a hold of him in Missouri, they cleared up the misunderstanding and cut him anyway. Tough break. :D

He's talented, though, and could compete for the second spot in our lineup easily.

As for Ellis Johnson, the two things on our side are the fact that we can offer plenty of playing time and a coach known for his innovative defenses.
