Ellen DeGeneres to replace Paula Abdul on American Idol

I watch American Idol, but, and maybe this actually makes me even more of a nancy-boy, but I literally fast forward through everything but the singing after the early rounds...and sometimes I fast forward through some of the songs, too, as it only takes 10 second to know if it will suck or not.

Perhaps the real entertainment was in the Simon v. Paula duels....but to me, listening to the judges say the same thing over and over and over and over again is stupid.

Randy - "Dog, that was ok"
Kara - I don't know, she was new, but pretty boring
Paula - "You make the twinkie clouds in my eyes sparkly and shiny in my stomach, kisses, the best"
Simon - Eye roll when Paula speaking, then says something useful, but mean

Paula was the most annoying, though, and Ellen should be a good replacement for the masses.

the hour show takes about 20 minutes to watch, so it's watched. the results show takes about 3 minutes to watch.

 

I heard she has a "no dance" clause in her contract.

Every audition and performance...Ellen has to dance her way around the place. lol.

She cannot be any worse than Paula...and she should be more funny than a doped up acting Paula who you could never quite figure out why she was so out of it.

I don't really care one way or another. I just like to watch the screw-up auditions in the beginning. The rest of it...could care less.

 

Agreed, there is no way I would ever watch the show if not for the DVR. We usually knock out the hour shows in about 15 minutes and the results shows in about 5 like you.

 

I don't really care for Ellen, and I hate American Idol. So I guess I will continue to not watch.

But seriously, I thought the goal was to have these artists judged by people who have been in the industry and later by the American public.

Why would Ellen's opinion matter any more than me or you?

 

The goal is to get people to watch the show and entertain us.

 

The other 3 can do that. Ellen will create interest and publicity for the show..

 

That's what AI needs is more publicity! You never hear anyone talking about it or anything.

 

I just don't find her funny and her sexual orientation has nothing to do with that. I don't find Carrot Top funny either and I am guessing he is straight. Even though Paula was a ditz, you knew at least that she had been in the music industry. With Ellen, you might as well have you or me up there to judge. The only reason why we aren't up there is because we are not as rich or famous as Ellen and not able to generate the publicity. This shows to me that AI is desperate and afraid they are losing viewers.

Also, it is all about taste. Just because you think Ellen is funny doesn't mean everyone else will feel the same way. I love Pink Floyd but I am not expecting everyone else to like them because I know their taste in music differs from mine.

 

Larry David would've been my pick.
