I've got a related two-fold plan to save the state even more money:

    1. Eliminate the death penalty.
    2. Bring back the chain gang, and use them to do all of the menial labor for spending plan infrastructure projects.

Sure, it would mean fewer jobs for politically connected contractors, but I don't think that should be the objective of government spending anyway. And if you can get the work done for cheaper, and the infrastructure is really necessary for business, it's really a win-win.

I'm against the death penalty because it is not a deterrent for crime. It's like a $150 speeding ticket, just give me the damn ticket so I can go on speeding after you leave. Start handing out $2500 speeding tickets and see who slows down, I know I would. Penalties that are not deterrent are worthless and this is not deterrent because people don't think it will ever happen and it usually doesn't. When people were hung in the street I'm sure it left quite an impression as to what happens when you brake the law, that's deterrent.

Executions should be public and quick. The justice system can get through all the appeal processes quickly and get these done quickly to let people know if you kill you will be killed, quickly.

Otherwise, get rid of the whole thing.

Of course I'm pro caning so... flame away.

The legal system can be manipulated and perverted at any pace, fast or slow.

While this may be true, we certainly have a better justice system than most of the world. Is it perfect? No. Would I rather be accused of a crime here than in Turkey (for instance)? You bet.

on a side note- you guys know the Nightstalker is still alive?

He was convicted 20 years ago.

If there's one guy where pretty much everyone agrees should just be killed already it's him.

They even let him get married 10 years ago.

Death penalty is reserved for the poor, sloppy, and/or unlucky.

Everyone else with charges of that magnitude gets acquitted or life in prison.

There was a study shown that showed blacks and whites committed Violent crimes at about the same rate, but blacks where 8 times more likely to be convicted. Blacks are more likely to go to jail for drug charges, sometimes mar1juana for a first offense, which ruins gets them into the system, and the 2nd offense usually puts them in prison. Basically if my family is living off 18,000 a year and you get accused of a murder because you were at the wrong place at the wrong time, do you think you would have enough money to actually defend yourself? There are a lot of people go to jail and get recorded just because they can’t afford good lawyers. If you don’t think the D.A’s are prosecuting innocent people just because they have enough evidence to pin a case on them then your as out of touch as the T J.

Here are some things for you to read.

    1) blacks are disproportionately poor; 2) the factors that are most likely to keep an offender out of prison do not apply to poor blacks; 3) blacks and whites in prison come from the same general socio-economic status; 4) race adds to the effects of economic condition; and 5) the economic powers in America could end or reduce racist bias in the criminal justice system if they wanted to do so. Reiman believes they see it as to their economic advantage not to curb crime. He finds that police, prosecutors, and judges all make certain that the poor are more likely to go to prison than the well-to-do. This should not be the case, given that white-collar crime is costly, widespread, and rarely punished. Even when arrested and convicted, white-collar criminals do not do the same amount of time as the poor, and do not go to the same prisons.

Fact: Nearly everyone commits crime -- only the poor are generally punished for it.

I assume that you are responding to me. I never said that the poor have lawyers who are just as good, etc etc. Of course they don't. O.J. Simpson went free as long as he did because he had money.

I only remarked as to the lack of fairness in your blanket, overgeneralizing statement regarding those on the right side of the aisle.

Kansas has major budget issues where they are having to raise funds or cut programs, so I assume they are talking about just cutting it to save money. Not sure about the various other states looking at this, though.

    Andrew Cunanan.

Most American serial killers have been white males which is one reason why the DC sniper was mistakenly presumed to be a white male.
