I would argue Manning Brady Brees are definitely better, but rodgers, shaub who ever else is maybe better so rivers has a legit argument for being top 5.
Big Ben, Brady, Manning, Brees, Favre are all better than Rivers. so no, River's not a top 5 qb. top 10. he's in the second tier with Rodgers, Shaub, Palmer, Rivers, (Romo, Ryan, Eli, McNabb)
The Steelers had a number of issues this year but none of them were due to Ben's play. Amid all the collapses, meltdowns and injuries Ben quietly had one of his best seasons to date. There really isn't a rational argument to be made for putting Rivers ahead of Ben. There just isn't.
Food for thought, you could argue that Rivers and Brady's stats have been pretty similair this year. The Pats won 3 undeniable blowouts, ones in which the other team had NO chance of winning from the start of the game. Jacksonville Tampa Bay Tennessee These are games in which any yards touchdown passes thrown by Brady are pretty much meaningless, since the game was over from the word "go". Brady racked up 13 TDs (out of 28 total) and 1035 yards during this span. Yes, almost HALF of his passing TDs and OVER 1000 yards came in 3 games that my cat could have started at QB and won. Games that Rivers would have been handing the ball off and see depressed stats. And Rivers? Let's consider 3 Charger blowouts this year (there were four, but I want a reasonable comparison): Kansas City (43-14) Tennessee (42-17) Denver (32-3) Rivers racked up 5 TDs (out of 28 total) and 726 yards during this span. Yes, FIVE of his passing TDs and NOT EVEN 750 yards came in 3 games that were surefire blowouts that the Chargers had from the word "go". Tom Terrific wasn't so terrific THIS YEAR (I don't know why I have to keep explaining to you that I am talking about this season). His stats are more padded than the bras of the Patriot cheerleader's. That "put him on the chargers" argument doesn't work, the Patriots have arguably the best 1 and 2 receivers in the league. Their o-line has been elite since 2006 and he has arguably the most efficient catching back on 3rd down in Kevin Faulk. Anybody remember the Denver game? He was missing his receivers like Trevor Ariza misses his 3's. Those were passes that he use to make with his eyes close. Rivers' best football is still ahead of him and it seems that Brady's best football is behind him. The transition is hard buddy, It's ok. You try to prove my signature wrong (which I removed as I said I would) by making this poll, you failed miserably. Go ahead, go make another one asking the good people of the hangout if Rivers is a top 5 QB or not. Let see how it'll turnout.
I don't believe being more dangerous necessarily means being better. I believe Randy Moss is the most dangerous WR in the NFL, but at this point he's not even close to being the best WR in the NFL anymore. You can almost say the same about Chris Johnson, but I do believe he is the best RB in the NFL though.
Being a dangerous player is part of it. I just think Rivers has the better arm and is the better overall player. I'll give you that Eli finally had a statistically great season. Finally. Now, let's just see him do it on a team that doesn't finish 8-8 and play from behind most of the time.
The problem with these top 5 arguments are even when asked to base it off this season people still what they have done for their career over just one season.
Some guy named Polamalu was out and their running game has been on the decline. In fact, they didn't run the ball well last season either. Big Ben has been coming on these last couple of years but he has been the beneficiary of an amazing defense since his rookie year.
ok, it's obvious most people think highly of Rivers. I don't think he's a bad qb in any way. he's actually very talented. originally, i said that he "seems" to lob the ball up a lot of the times and lacks the arm strengths that other elite qb's have. he also has some big receivers to throw to, not to mention gates who is one of the best TE's in the league. so the weapons that Brady and Rivers have are about equal. As far as Eli, ok. River's has put up better numbers and perhaps a better qb, but he hasn't won a ring. I still would want Eli if the all the variables are the same. that's just me and some folks on this board. you have a problem with my opinion. well, i could care less.
Stats has a lot to do with the system the QB runs and the weapons and O-line he's surrounded with. I'd take Rivers for Fantasy football, but if I had to win a game, Eli is clutch and cool under pressure.
