I understand Tomlinson has been injured, but rivers still has good talent around him, sproles, jackson, gates. edit: on the dilfer comparison eli's 07 postseason rating 95 Dilfer's 00 rating 83 Eli isn't as good as Rivers but he's a better qb than dilfer
I'll take Eli, he didn't collapse in the playoffs like Rivers did last night. Eli is much more clutch. Rivers is the better talent though, I won't deny that, but Eli just performs much better in the clutch. Don't give me that Eli has better teammates crap either, because Rivers clearly has better weapons on his team. I can't think of a single weapon Eli has on offense besides his running backs. While Rivers has the biggest trio of receivers in the NFL. Eli.
Trent Dilfer and Rex Grossman seem to be the go-to cabana boys for proof that a team can have great success without a studly QB. Case in point this season is clearly Sanchez.
Nope, Brees is the 2nd best QB in the NFL. Neither Rivers or Eli are Top 5. Uh ok, and if it weren't for Montana's 4 super-bowls. There would be no discussion of him being the greatest QB ever.
Since I took the playoffs into consideration...Rivers has been Top 5 THIS SEASON, but I still don't consider him a Top 5 QB. 1. Manning 2. Brees 3. Rodgers 4. Warner 5. Big Ben
Randy Moss was a pretty good regular season WR. There's a reason why he isn't better than Jerry Rice or Michael Irvin for that matter. He didn't have the work-ethic, wasn't a leader, wasn't clutch and had a low effort level. Had all the talent, but just didn't care enough.
dude, what are you talking about, eli had a good playoff run in 07, nobody's doubting that, but for his career he stilll has a 79 rating. he wasn't even good until that playoff run. and your anaologies don't make sense, jerry rice, irvin, and moss are all HOFers, eli isn't, even with the super bowl
And someone how Rivers is a HOFer now? The point of that is to show you that playoff success does matter in order to be superior than another.
This had me rolling around the floor of laughter. Eli is much more clutch? Did you watch the Giants vs Chargers this year? I'm pretty sure with only 1:09 on the clock Rivers he had the game-winning pass to Jackson. Rivers does have taller receivers but Steve Smith has really shaped in to be a top NFL receiver. Manningham and Nicks can be home run threats at any time. Plus their running game is much better than ours. Rivers carried this team the whole year to a 13-3 record and maybe with the exception of the Eagles game, Rivers won all of the games for us. When Eli's running game was slacking and the weight was put on his shoulders he collapsed. The Giants lost the last 8 out of 11 games. Oh and btw Rivers is a top 5 Quarterback.
rivers has a better career until now, superbowls count, but they aren't the end all be all. btw, you're the one mentioning hofers, jerry rice, joe montana, etc etc
Last I checked being clutch also required doing something similar in the Playoffs. Steve Smith is not even close to the WR Vincent Jackson is, not even damn close. And then you factor in Gates? Not even close at all. You can combine all those Giants WRs and they aren't even better than Gates. I would blame the defense on that as well. The Giants' secondary was too weak in order to survive a 16 game season. They got away with it the first 5 games because let's face it, they had a weak schedule. This season? Without question. Top 3 if you ask me, but I factor in other aspects as well .
dude, no one's arguing with you that rivers is good, but let's not act like even with no LT he's playing with scrubs
The question is who would you rather have, not who is better. I'll take Eli - in my opinion, he plays better in big games.
Brees was mediocre when he played for us, he also had a potential career ending injury on his throwing arm which led to arthroscopic surgery. How the hell were we suppose to know he would comeback and burn half of the league. Plus I'm happy with Rivers. Sure he had a bad game yesterday but it was no where near "on him". That choke job Kaeding missed 3 field goals.
