I never understand why a company would want to piss off it's customers. I have been playing Fifa World Cup 2006 for 2+ years, and as of July 1st EA decided to shut down the servers so we can't play multiplayer on XBox live any longer. What kind of crap is that? I have built up over 100+ friends that play this game, and we are now basically completely screwed....... There is no reason to shut servers off, none....most of us have all the other Fifa games too but this one allows you to play the WC tournament with current players..... Not to mention people have built up great records/rankings and those are all just whiped out now. This is why someone needs to challenge EA, because their bedside manner just flat out SUX. EA....YOU STINK.... DD
Obviously they want people to upgrade to the latest and "greatest". Also lets them free up servers for other games. Still sucks though - stuff like that shouldn't happen when we pay for Xbox Live service.
Exactly....there is no reason for them to tie in servers to multiplay, it is pure heavy handedness and basically ruins about 100 friendships or so I had on the system. So it weakens the XBox community, just stupid. DD
that sucks. obviously theyre pushing their Euro 2008 game. i downloaded the demo and the physics and responsiveness is drastically improved (imo). i cant wait until fifa 09.. comes out Oct 14th.
With the amount of online games nowadays, and considering there's a new sports game every freaking year, I have no problem with EA doing stuff like this. I think 3 years is a pretty good shelf life. How long are they expected to keep maintaining separate servers for old versions of games?
They should integrate it into the new game servers, it is just a small data dump...or let the data reside on the hard drive. Right now, I have a coaster....that is ridiculous. DD
It sucks that this happened, but it doesn't seem all that unusual for games similar to this, maybe even including some of EA's previous games IIRC. Would have been nice if they at least supported it for another year or two (at least until the next version of FIFA World Cup?), but I don't think it should really be expected for them to support it for very long. But that's doesn't mean EA doesn't suck. They do. There are plenty of other reasons to support that claim. Quit buying their games (especially when there might be better alternatives out there), and maybe they'll change things a bit. Of course, it is times like these when I hate the fact that EA bought Criterion, Dice, BioWare, Maxis, etc.
i ****ing hate EA! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/I11WYS2ddAM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/I11WYS2ddAM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Oh and I still blame EA for ruining the Ultima franchise after they purchased Origin. Trivia: In Ultima 7, the 3 "evil Generators" used by the Guardian (the main villain) are a sphere, cube, and tetrahedron, which were the objects that made up Electronic Arts' logo at the time Also, Elizabeth and Abraham (EA?) ended up being murderers.
I've hated EA since they "bought out" the competition in the football games field. Up until then the 2K series was their rival and one which almost always received better reviews. I personally liked 2K better than EA, then I just straight up hated them after that.
That's exactly the reason I dislike them but hey we live in a capitalist society and if you can corner a major market then more power to you. It just sucks because innovation goes straight out the window.
The sports stuff doesn't even bother me that much...well, relatively speaking. Basically getting rid of Origin Systems, Bullfrog Productions, Westwood Studios, etc., is what bothered me about EA. Although to be fair, they haven't really been as bad in that area as they used to be.
It sounds like they just want to make money instead of spending it. Selfish b*stard corporations, don't they realize how much business they lose by closing down the Fifa 2006 servers?
Watch as EA crumbles before our very eyes! It's like Apple stopping production of the iPod!!!!!!!!!!11111111
