I really wanted a Fender American P Bass....but couldnt swing the $900 for it..:(:(

So I got this sweet Samick YB5-639....it plays good and sounds sweet without any effects..tho I'm in the market for a compressor to give it a little extra punch.

    Well, if it's time to post pictures of basses, here's what I have;

An excellent bass - solid too. Boat anchor for a bridge, heavy mahongany for the body, passive electronics, stereo outputs. I love this bass, and actually traded in my Fender J-Bass Special in order to buy it.

I also have a Danelectro baritone guitar which is a lot of fun to play. Spaghetti western music!

Nice...I've been looking to buy a new (old) guitar, and had peeked at a few of these on eBay. Might be time to take another peek.

man!..thats sucker has to be heavy!

mine is about middle of the road of basses I have played/held...not too heavy...not a light-weight..
Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, active electronics, and gold (plated of course) hardware.

got a real nice bottom end for playing those thundering metal bass lines..:D
It aint a P Bass...but it does the job for me..

Hey there, mine will be a genuine Double Rhoads, not the truncated King V Jackson makes today. Regular Rhoads Vs are a dime a dozen. Double Rhoads are hard to come by.

Plus, mine is part of a limited special edition run of 30 as a tribute to Robbin "King" Crosby.

I was considering a Rhoads after I get this one, but with Charvel making a nice comeback, I'm going to be severely tempted in that direction.

No. You're right. The Double Rhoads (the red one I posted) just has both the top and bottom fins as long as the top, long fin on the regular Rhoads.

Jackson currently makes a King V, though, that is similar to the Double Rhoads, but the wings are smaller and the guitar, overall, is narrower.

I'm a little young for the Randy worship (more of a Jake E. Lee fan anyway).

    This is more my era:

Yeah, maybe I need to buy one of those pupleburst Jake E. Lee replicas from GMW. Only $1250. It's a sharp looking instrument.

Yeah, the Ovation Magnum is a monster - the reason the guy who I bought it from (he was selling it on consignment at Rockin' Robin) was getting rid of it was, to quote, "The damn thing was breaking my back." That's part of the reason I like it so much. I sometimes beat up my basses, and this one can take it.

I actually tried getting one of these basses for a long time and was not disappointed when I finally got one. It's the best, most solid, bass I've ever owned. Nothing flashy, just wood and metal. The stereo outputs (split between the pick-ups) are pretty cool too, and it has a nice fat tone.

It's a mystery why Ovation stopped making solidbody instruments, maybe they just weren't selling, but this particular bass is from 1975 I believe, and wasn't made for much longer after that (the case has sort of a musty-attic smell :) ).

I'm of the opinion that P-Basses, and Fender basses in general, are overrated. Maybe I just need to play the right one, but the bridges on Fender basses always seem to be so flimsy and wimpy. I replaced the bridge on my J-Bass special with a Bad Ass II, which was decent.

Thought of one other thing . . .check out the website for Subway guitars. Subway Guitars is run by this guy named Fat Dawg who basically builds ultra inexpensive (not cheap) instruments out of aftermarket parts and leftover instrument stock (i.e. original Danelectos and various Japanese guitars). While this may sound like a recipe for crapola, I have actually visited the store in Berkeley and the instruments are the real deal. You can get a great-quality instrument for under $500.

Here is the website for Subway guitars: http://www.fatdawg.com/

Here are some reviews of Subway guitars: http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Subway-Guitars/

    Good luck.
