For the love of God. Do people still not understand the electoral college. You voted in this election, but Mark, I have to ask, were you eductated in the US?

I understand electoral college perfectly. But it is such an ancient system, we would be served much better in the age of information technology to go with direct popular vote.

Oh I was educted here from junior high to grad school.

Did you notice the time of that post? It was before the counting started.

Not only did the founding fathers create the electoral college to protect against a tyrant being elected by the majority (to keep a King from being elected), and to keep their own interests...but it is also a State's rights issue.

We take this for granted now, that the Central government has all the power, but the electoral college gives power to the states themselves, not just to the masses.

I think it's the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. So for instance it will never be on the 1st of November.

If you count just the popular vote, then the candidates will focus the majority of their attention on the major metropolis's. The little towns & states would be completely ignored & receive no representation.

I will say that the Electoral College needs to be reformed.

An idea that I've been for, for some time now, is to give each state up to 100 electoral votes. The number of votes that any state gets would depend upon the percentage of registered voters that turnout. If they have 100% of the eligible voters vote, they get 100 electoral votes, 33% they get 33 votes. You'd also have to rule out rounding percentages up. Either you hit the next whole number or you didn't. Tell the lawyers to shut the h*ll up!

While this might cause the more populous areas to get less attention, it should encourage more people to get out & vote. It'd also force the candidates to spread their attention more evenly across all 50 states.

Another by product of doing this, is that the news networks would be unable to project the winner prior to all the western states casting their votes. With absentee & military ballots still pending, it'd be a week before the states could determine what percentage of voters actually voted. I could wait a week to know the results, if I knew that every vote was counted & no lawyers were involved.

As for voter fraud, fingerprint every registered voter & use that as a way to identify them at the polling booth. Also, to alleviate the concerns of some votes not counting, allow every citizen to go to any local voting place. While that might cause long lines at some voting places, it'll insure that every person that wants to vote, gets to vote. No more excuses or whining.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

you are right. . . i remember it being something about harvest time
which IMO lends credibility to it being a national Holiday
    1. it comes once every 4 years
    2. Why not give everyone that ONE day off
