Two questions: 1) What will John Edwards do for a living now? Back to being a trial lawyer? 2) Is Howard Dean having the last laugh? Although humiliated from The Scream, he still saved close to a year of his life by not having to campaign this long.
Did you say that in 2000, when Gore won the popular vote? I am not a fan of the electoral college at all. Not in the least. It is a remnant of our racist, white forefathers, who believed that although the "people" would decide who the president was, a certain group of elites would be the ones who actually cast the votes. The idea was that the more educated should decide the victor. That's not very democratic. So the electoral college is bad. And going by the popular vote, Bush is winning. Looking beyond the past three years of intimidation and threat of terrorism (Communist scare, anyone?), Bush is winning the popular vote fair and square. The only problem is that, had that system been used in 2000, he wouldn't even be running right now. Gore would be President, and the Republicans would have found a better candidate (as opposed to Junior, who just happened to luck into the war). And to expound on what Red Chocolate said, and perhaps to say it a bit more eloquently, America should not be hated outright. I love America. More precisely, I love what America could be. But I think Red Chocolate is right. I hate what America is, or at least what it's becoming. We are becoming one of the stupidest, most uninformed nations in the world. And Faos, your response about sending Red away with a one-way ticket is far too common. Why would anyone say this? "Oh, you don't like the country? Why don't you leave?" The obvious choice is reform, not exile. Irresponsible citizens take those one-way tickets. Responsible citizens aren't afraid to denounce the inequities present in our government or our lifestyle, and it makes me confused why anyone views this as a bad thing. All of society's greatest advances came as the result of discontent. Content people do not strive for reform or progressive ideas. Hence, any attempts to stifle objections, or to belittle the objectors, are attempts to stifle progress.
I'm not even saying these things as a pro-Kerry person. I'm saying them as a realistic political observer. There is going to be some really sticky, icky, messy litigation in store for us.
Al Gore Terry McAulifffe Michael Moore Sean Penn/Tim Robbins/Babs Streisand/et al Howard Dean Ted Kennedy Teresa Al Franken/Jeanine Garafalo Paul Begala James Carville What are these people thinking right now?
i want litigation. i want this to drag on. i will wait 11 days for the final nail in the coffin. and in those 11 days i'll pray and beg lawyers in ohio to make republican votes disappear and democrat votes appear. i dont want this to be over.
At the risk of derailing the thread.. there has been war in the Middle East since Isaac and Ishmael. As for the election, it's a "W" for the country. Only this time it's the popular, +4,000,000 - AND the EC...286. Ooops. It's over. edit: 96% reporting in NM, Bush widening lead to 30,000+
Actually, you can be drafted if you are in the age range. It is a myth that only sons can't be drafted, and college is no longer a protection to getting drafted...HOWEVER...being in college (or having a college degree) will significantly lower the risk of seeing combat if you were to be drafted...and special cases are USUALLY made for only sons to not see combat if drafted...but it is NOT a way to avoid being drafted nor is it a guarantee that you would not see combat. Not that it has to do with anything. The only rumor of a vote for a draft was a proposal in congress by two democrats that has been since shot down.
