More irresponsibility on the part of the Graham. It's been known for years that he doesn't have a spine but now I question if he has a brain. This is exactly the type of stuff that could push this country over the edge.
yeah its curious how much cruz licks trump after him talking about his wife like that. and same for graham these guys are bought or something fishy
Agree, Trump increased his QAnon type/MAGA base, these people all voted red downballot - there's no message or candidate, from Abigail Spanperger to Ayanna Presley - that can win in red-leaning districts with that kind of turnout. Lots of numbers to be counted still, but even in a non-gerrymandered map, geographic concentrations of Democratic votes make it harder than it has to be Note @geeimsobored on your last MN post point taken, I do recall reading some stuff back when this was a thing 4 years ago that the vast majority of cases - even a heavily gerrymandered pro-Democratic map is really hard to draw due to the urban-rural skew. So a neutral map is going to give you rep lean, regardless. Then it gets really wacky, in practice to have to tiptoe around this nationally. I mean you can't really get the mobilization you need in Georgia or whatever if you can never tweet anything that would offend a wheat farmer in Iowa (there's also an urgency around #BLM that I don't think a perfectly triangulated centrist democrat, to the extent that's a thing gets. I mean, can you really ask Legislators from minority districts where they and their sons and daughters are getting harassed, beaten, shot and killed by Police to cool it because it might help out a state legislator in the Iron Range? - seems almost morally wrong). I guess the problem is that our political instiutions are mostly designed for a local/regional setup to function properly but our politics have been hacked (thanks, tech companies) to be entirely national with an alternative facts epistemology and then we get this ****ed up broken minoritarian government. ANyway, that's a roundabout way of getting back to my main poitn, there's no candidate or issue that's going to be able to cut through all of that I don't think. Basically we need a new political system if we want rational, fact-based good faith governance I'm not optimistic about it but we just need more people to accept that our system is broken and needs to be replaced even if it seems impossible now.
My man. You're alright in my book. I don't care what IBTL says. Just kidding lol. Agreed. Gotta support the fam
There were issues that hurt the Democrats and issues that helped but I don't think that issues were what was driving this election. This was a referendum on Trump and whether it was Biden or Sanders I don't think it would've made much of a difference and it appears that many people had felt the economy and country was doing great under Trump and that COVID-19 wasn't his fault or they didn't care about it.
Cincinnatus was a conservative of his time. He was a patrician and he didn't think plebeians should have a say in the government of Rome.
" The Romans did have the story of Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, whom was appointed to a 6-month term as Dictator of Rome to deal with with a national crisis. Cincinnatus managed to end the crisis in one day, promptly resigned from his dictatorship, and was back to tending his farm by nightfall "
To be fair it's a lot easier to just call someone a socialist over and over and be effective than spend 20 minutes explaining the nuances of why healthcare reform is needed and how it can improve more American lives. You also have to get people to be willing to listen to you for 20 minutes while being open to changing their initial beliefs on the subject. That's an uphill to climb. It's such a weird time to me. With the internet, more people literally have all human knowledge at their fingertips to learn from our predecessors and to make wiser choices. Instead, it's just a mix of misinformation memes and 140 character platitudes aimed to rile up bases. More so than Covid, the viral spread of misinformation on the internet, television and radio is really rotting this country. How else can so many otherwise rational people believe the conspiracies that they do with such conviction? We are talking about people who consider themselves patriotic to this country yet are willing to support politicians who do everything they can get away with to subvert the democratic process.
OMFG a few dozen black jack dealers would have knocked this count out in about an hour without machines - shuffled the results and recounted.
**** that ****. EO that Biden votes don't count, since he is the weakest Presidential candidate ... in the history of history.
because if you are cuban guy in miami you think trump is tough macho guy and biden is a p***y. its really that simple... those same guys would lap up cuomo. give me a cuomo / george clooney ticket and call me back
Just wanted to take the opportunity to express how impressed I am with this thread and D&D community... lots of great information and insights being shared. Kudos to those who have provided so much good dialog. And equally important (at least to me) is the absence (for the most part) of chest thumping. I suspect that there will be the inevitable "own the cons" later... but I am hoping that if Biden wins (which is looking increasingly likely) that the amount of hyperpartisan gamesmanship is minimized. It will be a close election, and republicans made gains in the House and will possibly maintain control of the senate. We have lots of work to do together... and there are many areas we actually agree. I am hoping Biden reaches out to republicans and trump supporters, and puts some wood behinds statements like "we are not red states and blue states, but the United States."
i throw up in my mouth a little everytime i hear fox talking about others trying to "manipulate the narrative"
