Campbell was one of the most underrated players in the league a few years ago. Now he's old but he's still quite serviceable. I'd take him over Deke.

Uh, why would Detroit want Piatkowski? They have a ton of SF/SG types.

They might need another backup point guard because they're going with Lindsey Hunter and Horace Jenkins (rookie averaged 20ppg in Europe last year), but they don't need anything else.

And I doubt they'll send out Campbell. They're not sure Coleman can play (or if they want him to play) and they will cut McCaskill, so they don't really have that much of a glut at C/PF.

How much is Elden earning anyway? And yea I'd take him over Mutumbo...because...well Mutumbo is too damn old. We already got Ewing for as a Yao mentor right? Besides I dont think Ewing really taught Yao anytHIng :p

Elden has about $4.5 million left on a contract that ends this year. If it doesn't put us into LT land, I'd be interested in giving them most of our TE for Campbell and maybe a 2nd round pick.

Rasheed, Big Ben, Milicic and Mcdyess.

Anything more than them constitutes a glut.

I think it would take a draft pick to get Elden, since the Pistons have no current needs.

Mogrod, I have to agree with you yet again. I guess great minds think alike :D

Campbell may make more than Grandpa Mutumbo, but Campbell is a big improvement. i said this several times before. We need a guy that can play 20 or more minutes a game. I am NOT saying that he should play 20 minutes, but Yao is still young and foul prone. If Yao gets into foul trouble in a big regular season or playoff game, than subpar backup can cost us the game. Campbell has played with the best defensive team in the NBA. He put some decent numbers against LA. Most impotantly, Campbell can guard any low post players except for Super Shaq and Tim.

We're forgetting one key fact: Last time I saw Campbell, he was a tub of fat.

    Has that changed?

At least Mutombo always takes care of his body.

Campbell at least has a pulse... who cares if out of shape....

as opposed Mutumbo, being alive right now is a plus, Campbell knows how to hold a basketball

if all they want is save $ on a player they don't need:

    A. Griffin + 2nd rd. pick for Campbell. the Pistons then cut Griffin before season starts.

Hate to not see Mutombo's elbows flailing at Rox opponents next year. But, I'm all about Elden over Deke. Either way, it doesn't matter much. The good side is that it gives us more options and possibly lowers chicago's trade demands.

    WOW!

this might be a bit off basketball-related topic, but ISRAEL?!!!!!

If I were the Pistons, I would have definitely put a "no Israel" clause in his contract (kind of like a "no motorcycle" clause, if he was given a contract that is)

Does this guy know what is going on in that troubled country? It must be sheer desperation (no one offered him contract somewhere else in Europe) that he is going there.

I wish him safety, not that I care, but for the Pistons' sake

This is my first post. I've been checking out the site for a while, but just recently got a username. About 6 weeks ago, I saw a thread that said "What should we call our two superstars?"

So what did ya'll decide? I want to know what we will be calling the "Yao and T-Mac duo!":p

nice to see you joined and contributed and finally posted, but what does this have to do with the topic of the thread itself?

as for campbell i would not be adverse in getting him. defensively he is far worse than mutombo but light years ahead of him in terms of offense. watching him in the finals this year shown me two things: he is still servicable for sure and that he is actually a pretty good passer. he made some good passes in the finals this year, i didnt think he was that good of a passer myself

Thanks for the warm welcome Mr. YoYo... You are pretty clever, my question has nothing to do with the Cambell thread. I just wanted to know what the nickname was going to be.
As for Cambell, he would be a decent backup center... But if I could get Deke and Chandler for Howard and Pike, I'd prolly do it.

Least Likely Nickname: Chicken and Rice

Most Likely Nickname: Yao and T-Mac

Another advantage of Campbell over Deke: Campbell can play backup center and give minutes at PF alongside Yao if the circumstances called for it. It's not an ideal setup, but a workable option in spots, and having more options is better than having fewer.

Playing Deke and Yao together, however, would probably not work as well.
