This ^ After watching him play, he clearly has all the tools to be an All-Star center of the future for the Houston Rockets ... his only problem is strength, but that can be improved on, so its not really a big deal ... He would definitely benefit coming to team with vets. like Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes and Yao Ming, who can teach him how to be a professional. However I would also be okay if they drafted Vesely or Motiejunas, two really agile athletic 7'ft with 3pt range that have really high ceilings ... --RB
Beat me to this response. Duke destoryed everyone on the glass. Udoh would be a great fit with the Rockets. He probably won't be there but one can hope.
This is the correct answer. Everyone dreaming and drooling over Hassan Whiteside can keep doing so cause he WILL NOT be there at number 14. I have a feeling Xavier Henry will fall in our laps and DM will chose him based on him being the best player available and stock piling another valuable asset. Udoh will be borderline, he could be there but then he could be off the board. It's really a toss up but I'd still go with the best value player rather than team need.
I like both Udoh as well, however he really projects as a PF in this league (as do most of the big men). We already have a very decent 4 prospect on the team, his name's Jordan Hill. I'd rather trade our pick to Memphis in exchange for either Hasheem Thabeet or Marc Gasol, even if it means adding pieces like Chase and/or our draft pick next year. The last thing you want to do is end up like the Raptors or Minny wherein you have two good fours and one has to play the 5 out of necessity esp. when our C is one of the most fragile players in the league.
You know I never really figured out this "best player available" argument. It makes so much sense on paper but the reality is how will you know who the best player is? Xavier Henry could be the next MJ but he could just as easily be the next Von Wafer. Instead of saying BPA, it should really be the Highest Potential Available, because really that's all you can gauge. With that said, wouldn't it be better to pick the guy with potential who fits a team need rather the guy with just potential? Minny tried to be all smart about it and drafted using the BPA method, they ended up having 90% of their talent in only two positions.
IF Udoh is there at 14, I don't think there's any way we don't take him. He's long, athletic, hustles, and has good scoring ability. That being said, I would be VERY surprised if he's there at 14.
When people say "best player available" they are talking about the highest potential regardless of position. Years ago, we went after Brandon Roy despite having an all-star at SG and no PF's. Who the best player available will be is anyone's guess, but if you have an idea you go for it. Would you turn down John Wall just because we already have AB and Lowry? Never draft someone because they play a certain position.
jus like the Texans draft some1 has to fall to us and whether its this guy or Monroe etc we will be gettin a great prospect
I'm sure Morey and friends have their rankings of players and stats on who could be the next Brandon Roy, Brook Lopez, or Brandon Jennings. Minny were really just picking all the players they thought they could get value in and trade away in package deals. They should have went with Stephen Curry at one of those picks but chose Johnny Flynn (their guy) and a potential trade deal scorer in Rubio. Ty Lawson was pretty much another pick that was being traded. Plus I don't think Khan knew exactly what he was doing in the draft that year. I'd put money on Morey picking the studs out of that group. Either way, I'd still go with best player or as you put it best potential/upside player available. I'm more than positive Morey doesn't go into the lottery blindly looking for talented players with no idea of potential and ability.
it isnt a lock that we will have the 14th pick rite? last time i checked we have a lottery pick so that means we have a chance at moving up iin the draft order.. a small chance but a chance at the very least so i dont understand why everyone is so stuck on us at the 14th slot
I'm sure having Chuck Hayes on the team could help Udoh a lot considering how undersized Chuck is. Udoh's leaping ability can make up for his lack of height so I don't think he would have too much of a hard time playing the 5.
We have a .5% chance to make it into the top 3 if I'm not mistaken, if not we stay at 14. Now you tell us why we are stuck at us being at the 14th slot.
Hill and Udoh are two very different players. Udoh in my opinion can flip between the 4/5 very easily with his shotblocking presence and overall defense.
"The guy that got owned in that game was the Baylor coach Drew having his team stand back in a zone the entire game." And we have a winner!
Uhh, say no to Ekpe Udoh!!, the dude is a freaking senior citizen ... jk  But seriously the guy is freaking old for this draft ... his going to be 26th by his 3rd year while other players in this draft would be 22-23 by their 3rd year, which bring to question his upside ... plus we're loaded at PF, and Udoh is to weak (for someone his age) to play center, so lets draft one of the YOUNGER 7'ft that actually have upside!!
We need success sooner than later so why not draft a wiser guy rather than some teenager. His leaping ability can definitely make up for his lack of height at center. Dwight Howard is 6'11" and is able to player center just fine.
