In the face of much ridicule the OP calmly continues to make his point providing a small dose of sanity among a lively chorus of jeers. He is right, of course, inner-city freeways are a terrible, terrible thing.

It is inspiring in a small way to know that there are a few municipalities worldwide who recognize this and have the vision and the will to do something to address it.

    OP repped.

I agree. And I like the topic of mass transit. As much as I like a nice ass/boobs/combo breaker thread. There is probably room for discussion why just the united states may not be completely perfect in every aspect.

Texans and the close mindedness that is so prevalent among the average person is mind numbing sometimes.

Everyone (even texans) would love a mass transit system that is wide spread and efficient. The problem is that it's going to take more than a couple of stupid light rails and laying down sod over a few freeways that run downtown.

You're post is more close minded than the people poking fun

Yeah. The OP is sharing some interesting ideas. We just gotta score one for Robert Moses, a bureaucratic genius who was part of/led a city-planning movement to re-architect American cities around high rises and the highway system. Moses influenced a lot of the direction of highway planning in the country.

Cutting the highways through cities meant some community was gonna pay the price. It is unfortunate, but predictable, that black communities were targeted for the razing. If you were part of one of these communities, it might has well of been a bombing. Sure those communities existed because of segregation, but those businesses, the economic activity, and the communities themselves were still real. In Oakland, the black business and entertainment district on 7th street was annihilated by BART and the highway system.

    da1 went full r****d BUT i agree.

freeways should circumvent the inner portion of major cities. in cases they don't they should terminate into major thoroughfare such as a boulevard, similar to Allen parkway/Memorial Drive/Spur527 near downtown. besides it's the INTERSTATE system not the INNERCITY system.

I wasn't just talking about mass transit. I meant this state in general gets to me. Growing up in Brenham a guy with long hair, or two girls walking down the hall holding hands. Oh the horror.

People sometimes just seem so closed minded or opposed to change.

Anyways carry with the exciting topic of mass transit

    ;)

Yep, let's generalize a whole state.
