I'm sorry to hear this. But this sounds exactly like what is happening all over the country and what many who sounded the alarm on Obamacare were saying since 2009 when it was being debated. Hopefully, congress can find a bi-partisan approach to fix the mess so that people like yourself will be able to keep your original plan.
As far as i was told when i spoke to ehealthinsurance, id be looking at $600-$700 for individual. For those of you asking about blaming healthcare industry. They are the ones who lobbied for this plan and spent millions on it. The politicians in the senate that rammed this through a legal loophole are simply doing what they have always done...kowtow to the money. Id put more blame on obama if it wasnt so obvious that hes as much of a puppet as dubya was.
You don't blame Obama because Obama is a puppet? makes sense health insurance companies can't force you to do anything. They can only make you offers.
All I'm saying is that it would be prudent to really check all the available avenues. If you're still getting screwed I'm sorry - I was in no way trying to make light of the situation. Rather, I was remarking that truly defining the situation is probably a good first step.
Amen brother, Insurance companies suck, even if you get the most expensive plan, they'll try to weasel out of paying stuff.
Yep. Everyone who says they have "good benefits" has never tried to use them for heavy lifting. God forbid someone in your family get cancer; you will need another person in your family to battle, 24/7, with the insurance companies on the phone. Just a miserable state of affairs.
Health care costs have been going up steadily for years, part of the reason health care insurance became a political topic. Since someone mentioned "political topic", shouldn't this be discussed in D&D?
You really should look at the details of the benefits in your current plan vs the ones you're being offered. By most accounts, New York's individual insurance market was dysfunctional because they didn't allowed pre-existing conditions but also didn't have a mandate. There were very few insurers and it was extremely expensive. As a result, it's one of the states that had a clear decrease in prices by most analysts. This study (which has a bunch of flaws) says the average state will see a 41% increase in premiums - a number that is inflated by their methodology. Yet even in that, New York will see a 40% DECREASE. http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapot...miums-by-avg-of-41-subsidies-flow-to-elderly/ Obviously, I know nothing about the specifics of your situation, but I suspect the policies you're being offered cover more than your previous one in someway or another.
Its probably a lie. They went up on it because they wanted too The ACA is just a convienent excuse to do it. Rocket River business lie all the time
You don't have the slightest clue how businesses work. Did all the health insurance companies get together and say 'hey lets raise our prices and blame this new law' ? Also they would make way more money if they offered a cheaper product than their competitors.
yeah i hear yah. we used ehealthinsurance last year and spoke to them at length after we got the letter from UHC. I didnt check the insurance exchange until someone here mentioned it and it turns out the insurance rates for a comparable plan is even higher than the quote we got in the mail if you know of another venue with options other than ehealthinsurance or the NY health exchange, please help a brotha out
the new stuff it covers is pregnancy termination, family planning, and prescription drugs. there is no option without drugs, it seems, at least not in the plan level that we want. maybe it will decrease for people who were on brutal plans because of age or other factors, but I just know that my wife, who is healthy and in her 30s, is seeing a 66% increase for added stuff that we dont want, nor asked for.
Sorry not "this". Contrary to less-informed belief, insurance rates (that translates to premiums to the lay folk) are regulated either at a state or federal level (depends on the offering). It takes quite a bit of effort to adjust rates. You can't just do it "because you want to" because A) it has to be approved which requires proof of the need of the increase AND B) even in a database driven world, it's not that cheap and easy AND C) if you overprice your insurance, good luck selling it in a competative market like this.
There in lies your problem. The govt is saying you can't own a car that doesn't have airbags, seatbelts, 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, anti-theft, backup camera, impact sensors, bluetooth, etc. I mean really you'd just be foolish to own something that doesn't have ALL that. Very unsafe. You have to have something that has ALL of the safety features necessary. So if you have one of those, park it. But good news - we can point you to some places that have these new fully loaded cars over here to sell you. Gov'ment knows best.
If you did not have prescription drug coverage and family planning before, you did not have a "platinum plan".... it sounds like you have a bronze or silver plan.....
my good friend in Texas (36 y/o male) saw his premiums triple. Still waiting for one person to say that their premiums went down. I hope that lowered premiums are the norm but from what I am hearing so far from a few people (very small sample) is that it is the opposite. If that is the case, what a disaster the ACA is... Like I said, hope the sample is not the norm and this actually helps people Sorry about your costs rising so drastically
