THE ROCKETS STARTED THE YEAR with John Lucas at the point; however, 65 games into the season, Lucas left the team. Allen Leavell replaced Lucas and averaged more than 17 points per contest in 12 games before breaking his wrist. For playmaker No. 3, Rockets Head Coach Bill Fitch looked to his bench and inserted Robert Reid into the starting lineup.

Your posts give me chills. CHILLS.

Anyone else here ever protested the Rockets decision not to re-sign Kenny on localTV?

Anyone else ever protested it on local TV in front of Kenny himself? Just me?

    Weird.

The Bobby Joe Reid situation that year turned out to be fortuitious - he was a converted small forward / big guard, and had the size to fluster Magic. He was a big reason we could stiffle them - Dream and Ralph neutralized their inside game / sky hook spectacular, but Mitch Wiggins and Reid could handle the perimeter - Magic, Coop, B. Scott, etc. That was huge.

Do not forget, we stuffed them at their peak, when the Showtime Lakers were 100% healthy. It was bigger than big, and taken historically, quite amazing. They had nothing on that years team, NOTHING. They went down in 5 to the Sampson-era Rockets. Sampsons back injury, Sweet Lou and Mitch Wiggins drug problems were really unfortunate, that was a stillborn dynasty.

At this point Matt Maloney is a better pg than Raefer.

    Maloney could hit 3's.

    That is all.

i started this cause i notice lots of kenny haters cause of TNT.
nevermind the millions of times he mentions "CLUTCHCITY"(like he did when he was talking about Clyde on dancing with the stars).

Charles and Kenny have been right about the Rockets. I thank them for their honesty. Whenever we start showing that we deserve the praise then we'll get it. Respect is earned not given. People forget that Kenny said when Yao was a rookie that "Yao is their best player "

Kenny was an unfortunate victim of the insanely permissive defensive during the 94 finals when Harper molested him every time down the court.

And compared to the shutterbug moves of Cassell, the milage on Kenny's wheels was very apparent.

But in the day, Kenny was fast and efficient and ran the pick-n-roll with OT like nobody else.

In a different style offense, not run through Hakeem, Kenny would have averaged very good assist numbers.

Remember how well the Rockets did after Hakeem was elbowed by Cartwright?

    I'm a fan.

    what are you talking about?

Georgetown made it to the Final Four.

In the great movie ABOVE THE RIM, it prophecized that Georgetown would be there cause that kid chose going to Georgetown over playing for Birdie's team (Tupac)

    Regulate!

Kenny never played in the fourth.

Everybodys favorite Rocket, little Scotty Brooks finished games.

    I am good at basketball.

    That is a DAMN FACT.

Kenny Smith is one of my favorite Rockets. His D wasn't good but he could shoot and played the 2 man game with Hakeem to perfection. People forget too how fast he was. His nickname was Jet and in his earlier days he could breakdown a D with the best of them.

Bringing in a fresh energetic point guard late in the game is definately something that JVG could learn from Rudy T. I could see guys like Snyder, Lucas III and V-Span becoming 4th quarter specialist like Brooks or Cassell.

    Yes Sishir,
Kenny was a favorite of people who loved the Rockets championships.
The people who hate him, spit on the championships and every member of the team.

I remember it well. he was awesome in those two games. It was just the other 5+ seasons with the Rockets that left much to be desired. I would argue if it wasn't for these two games, his time with the Rockets would have been viewed as very unsuccessful vs. just mediocre. He also was taking time away from Casell who would trun out to have a far superior career. Remeber this is the guy who Dick Motta said was the most gutless player he had ever coached.

Would JVG play Kenny Smith or would he put him on the bench for getting burned on defense on every other possession. Same question for Cassell and his matador defensive style.

Sishir, you're a great guy, but those dudes aren't anything like Brooks, ET, or Leavell. And there is no one on the team's bench remotely as talented as Bobby Joe Reid. What those teams had was depth at the point. We don't have a genuine starting point, much less depth at the position.

Oh you mean when Kenny averaged 17.7 pts a game and 7 assists a game in 1990-1991. You just revealed 2rings, that you didnt watch the Rockets before 2 rings!
