Don't turn into a complete idiot, please. You seriously can't want a draft. Are you of draft age? Do you live in the United States? In other words, if you desire the draft, why not simply enlist?

Yes, this is us now - Marshall Plan, NATO, the State Department, the National Security Council - all the legacy of the Postwar Order that millions died for and dedicated their lives to ...- that has been set on fire in favor of basically putting Russ Westbrook's 3rd Quarter against the 76ers as the President of Foreign Policy

But hey tax cuts! Wingnut judges. Worth it

I'm referring to the draft of the statement that agreed to Iraqi Parliamentary request for all US troops to leave the country.

Russia through it's proxies has effectively gotten us out of the middle east.

Nah... America is still young as an empire. As long as America controls commerce (shipping lanes, oil, etc..) she'll still be a super power. Besides, whoever builds the Death Star first will eventually win out.

Shipping lanes and oil are not the keys to power anymore, besides the US doesn't control that. Oil is a cheap commodity now and globalism is in full swing, if anything, we are more protective than other countries.

Trump is trying to eat the checkers because he thinks they're cookies or Filet o Fish.

Putin is meanwhile just commiting crimes and nobody bothers to stop him, because the person who would traditionally police him is eating the checkers.

The U.S. has the most potent Navy in the world. Unmatched. Oil is the whole point. The energy sector has done a good job downplaying lately, but don't fool yourself.

None of that has to do with the US as a superpower. We produce plenty of oil for US consumption. We don't actually need to ship oil back to the US anymore.

The U.S. is able to impact the price of oil because of our lack of dependency. It wouldn't surprise me if the production numbers were exaggerated to leverage our position.

Have to agree with the General on this one...letter isn’t signed which means it was either on his desk or making its way up the chain (likely the latter). Looks like someone was able to get a picture of it and cause all hell to break loose.

Does mean that the General needs to take a look at the people below him in his chain and figure out why this was released like this.

The US doesn't have the power to impact the price of oil because we are a free enterprise system and no one company dominates supply plus the gov't doesn't interfere with companies' productions. So you are wrong. The US doesn't have that ability. Saudi Arabia does

I'm sure there's some folks here on the board who work in the oil biz that can explain it better. My golfing buddies would definitely disagree with you. They're all employed in or retired from energy sector. They certainly like our position.

What us energy company controls the price of oil? Because US energy got his really hard when Saudi Arabia decided to drop the price of oil to put the squeeze on the US shale revolution. And they didn't do squat to maintain the price and took a beating.
