There are many sound reasons not to use drugs. Here is a real good one.

Student cuts off penis and tongue after drinking hallucinogenic tea

A student cut off his own penis and his tongue after drinking an infusion of the latest drugs craze to sweep Germany.

The 18-year-old, only named as Andreas W, from Halle in Germany drank a tea made with the hallucinogenic angels' trumpet plants.

His mother said: "Andreas was behaving normally the whole day until he left the house and disappeared into the garden for a couple of minutes."

When he returned to the house he was wearing a towel wrapped around him and was bleeding heavily from his mouth and between his legs.

But in all seriousness and objectiveness, if Eddie had been caught consuming alcohol prior to May 30th this year, would you all be saying this same stuff? In the state of Texas it (Minor in possession/consumption of alcohol) would be just as illegal for him to consume alcohol at the time of this alleged crime as it was for him to smoke pot.

Would we all be calling him names and making up ways to talk trash about him if the charge was alcohol?

And who here hasn't consumed alcohol while under the age of 21? That, for your info, is just as illegal as what Eddie did, so don't act like you're better than him if you did drink prematurely, because you're not.

Smoking reduces stamina and lung capacity. There's a reason right there why he shouldn't smoke. I would be pissed if Eddie even smoked cigarettes.

His job is to play for the Rockets and help them win. He's not doing that if he smokes.

with that argument you are saying no one should smoke. reduced stamina and lung capacity would hinder anyone's ability to do their best. the fact is that we live in a world full of choices. athletes just have theirs aired and scrutinized by the media. my question is why does the NBA test for mar1juana in the first place?

legal or not, "human behavior" or not,

they are professionals. It's as simple as that.

they are idolized by our youngsters and it's their job to maintain/play at a higher level.

The only crime Steve committed was meeting an overzealous cop after being pulled over for a traffic violation

    thegary,

    1) No one SHOULD smoke. That's not what I was saying, but that IS the truth.

    2) I wouldn't give a rat's ass if my mechanic smoked all day before fixing my A/C, because he doesn't need good stamina and lung capacity to do anything. A proffesional athelete who is payed millions of dollars to help his team achieve the highest level of success is SEVERELY hindered by smoking.

Preoffesional soccer players in the most normal of clubs aren't allowed to smoke. If you're a smoker, it's harder for you to lift weights as well. Maybe if Griffin wasn't getting high all the time, he could use that time to get a little bigger and show some strengh when playing.

The NBA tests for mar1juana because they don't want a few bad seeds affecting the rest of the league. In short, they don't want druggies in their league.

Eddie Griffin smoking pot is just like MoT getting fat. What they do is their business in their free time, eat or smoke, whatever...As long as it doesn't affect the team in ANY way. MoT can have all the cheesecake he wants if he shows up in shape, and Eddie Griffin can smoke all the pot he wants if he lives up to what we payed for him - 3 first round picks.

1)yes its illegal, but so is not wearing your seatbelt. i find it ironic that pot, a relatively harmless, naturally growing plant is illegal, while alcohol, which kills thousands upon thousands every year is legal and even heavily encouraged by the media. if i may paraphrase bill hicks...seems like making something that grows in nature illegal a little...unnatural. no one has EVER overdosed on pot, but people die of alcohol poisoning every day. and tobacco kills even more people than alcohol, but its legal. why is pot illegal? i have my theories, but that is for another thread.

2)mind altering is a tad exagerrated. how about mind "enhancing"? anyway, whats wrong w/ altering your mind if thats how you choose to spend your free time? how does it affect you in any negative way? everyone likes to have a good time...some play croquet, some go scuba diving, some drink beer, some have freaky sex with one legged midget transvestites and some like to smoke pot. whats good for the goose isnt always good for the gander, but as long as it doesnt harm you whats the problem?

3)not appealing!!! you are entitled to it, but that is simply your opinion. have you ever even tried it? i would guess not. trust me, it appeals to ALOT of people. yes pot can be abused, but so can alcohol, television, coffee, clutch city, ect...ect...
lots of people are alcoholics, but we dont make alcohol illegal.

if i may paraphrase bill hicks again...drugs have done alot of wonderful things and if you dont believe me than take all of your records and albums and burn them, cause the people that made that wonderful music which has enhanced your life throughout the years...real f***ing high.

andreas from halle is a moron. i dont care how high you are, if you cut off your ding-a-ling than you are a moron and it is better that you dont have that thing so that you are not able spread your moronic seed.

    darwinism at work.

i cant speak for others who have done hallucinogenics, but ive done plenty in my day and i still have my tounge and penis.

back on topic though, eddie should not have been smoking pot. he is a professional athlete who must keep his body in tip-top shape, getting paid millions of dollars to do so. it is against the rules of his job to smoke pot and he fully knew this.

most of us here would probably be willing to cut off our ding-a-lings like andreas from halle to be able to play for the rockets. if i made millions of dollars playing basketball i would find other ways to entertain myself.

    THIs is funny...

Has anybody in this thread once said that alcohol is safer than doin weed?

    NO!!!!!

The people here who are into the weed are the ones who keep stating this!!!...we all know the statistics....

though the funny thing is the reason why you state this is because it's your way of justifying what you do or have done before(PSY300).....it obviously alters a person perception...there is'nt anythin else that does that which is not bad for you(which is obvious)...except for alcohol and drugs....point proven.

    Mr.Sumofuk

damn i went to your link......who do you think wrote that.......????...think about it.
I'll make it a little more obvious for you...just read the title of the web-site.

By the way ... i live in Canada so i think i know the laws here.

I was going to stay quiet because this is not the D&D, but this is a ridiculous story. First, you provide no source, second, "Andreas" allegedly took a hallucinogenic tea, what does this have to do with mar1juana?

I am not a fan of drugs, I was a drug abuse counselor for several years and can personally attest to the damage that drugs can pile on a person. The most important thing that we need to come to grips with is that half of our children use some kind of illegal drug before they leave high school and an even higher percentage drink alcohol.

Prohibition has failed as a policy and must be replaced by a strong system of regulation that will initially reduce the number of young people who are able to acquire drugs and eventually have a positive impact on overall rates of use through scientific study rather than demonization and politicizing.

I guess this thread will be moved in 3..2..1..

EDIT: Here is a link to our discussion of what I mean by "regulated."
