EG did look pretty good, but if he pulls the same crap in Minny as he did here they'll boot him as well. I guess you'd be a flip saunders hater then...

alantong, why don't you want till the season starts? It's only a few more days. Who cares if EG scored 11 freaking points in a preseason game?

Let's see what kind of playing time he gets in Minnesota....

Last night during the game they kept talking about him and all the problems he had....they also showed how they put his locker next to KG's i guess to mentor him and stuff. Lets see how he works out over there.

He did decent last night too. 31 min 15 pt 5 rb 2 blk

Does anyone know what happened to the guy KG punched? He should be pretty good to make KG look bad on the court.

Thank goodness someone on this board has good sense. I don't get all the hate directed at EG. This is a business and EG would have been the ideal fit at PF with Yao/Mutombo and backing up Howard. And, we could have gotten him for next-to-nothing. We did the right thing getting rid of him initially, but he rehabbed and he could have come back to the Rox this summer ( I think he may have wanted to, also). It is very apparent that we need someone like him.

If he relapses then I'm wrong, but if he doesn't then our management really blew it, BAD. He still has a very big upside. I also made some dumb choices at 19, and I didn't have $$$ to help me along. But I'm 61 now and I'm glad I could quit paying for those mistakes along time ago.

we should sign that guy to a few 10 day contracts this year....only when we will be playing the twolves in those 10 days. let him get in kg's head, maybe he will try to punch him again and get ejected.

If EG would have played well for the Rockets there probably would have never been a trade. He would have made all the difference in the world. Secondly, if he was on the team and there would have been a trade, you can’t say for certain he wouldn’t have been a part of it.

So you think the fact that Griffin scored 11 points and dished out 2 assists in a preseason game means that we should have kept him?

that's good stuff to hear. KG seems like he would be able to help out a guy like EG. eddie has so much talent and he is so young. even though it sucks he couldn't get it together here in houston i hope he can become a star up in minnesota and get all his emotional problems worked out.

Ah, how soon we forget that Kelvin Cato had 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 blocks on 10/15/99 (preseason). Look how that turned out.

    Preseason means next to nothing.

I don't think there was a trade? Didn't we just let him go and he picked up with NJ. In any event my post refers to not attempting to resign him more that the original offense anyway. It was widely reported on this board that he was sober and playing very well in John Lucas' rehab camp.

While everyone was hollering on this board that we needed a shot blocking, rebounding PF; there he was just sitting under our nose. I'm not trying to say that he will or won't succeed, just that our management could have helped us alot if he turns out to be successful. And with little or no downside.

Never said "We should have kept him". What is wrong with talking about him ? You seemed to indicate that simply talking about the situation is wrong or not in-line with your perceived notion of what we are suppose to talk about. If I misread your intent I apologize.

The only thing wrong with Eddie Griffin is that we could have picked Richard Jefferson, Zach Randolf, and Tony Parker with the picks we traded for him.

Thought we probably would have picked Kirk Haskins, Joesph Forte, and Terrence Morris.

Oh well it's done and we have TMac and Yao.

Man, I don't mean to be an ass about this, but what a pathetic display of fandom by a lot of you. This is a guy who had a drug and alcohol problem, fired a weapon at a girlfriend and never demonstrated any real desire to live up to his talents. The Rockets gave EG every opportunity to improve himself, but he chose the lazy way and to not only ignore league rules but the laws we set aside for our society.

The guy was a chronic substance abuser and clearly had an anger-management problem and was showing ZERO signs of improving. Now that he has a couple of decent preseason games with another team, we're all ready to say how bad our management screwed up the situation???

Where are the demands for personal responsibility? Where is the outrage for the lack of effort? Where is the defense of his teammates and coaches who he let down by screwing up while here? Where is the praise for management who gave him every opportunity to make a career for himself despite the numerous times he let the team and the franchise down???

This is the exact reason why athletes think they can get away with anything. It is why they are given a free pass and why they are treated differently under the law.

And I find it incredibly ironic that many here were ready to hang Steve Francis for poor play on the floor even though he never got into any trouble with the law and had no substance abuse issues. In his time here, all he did was lead the team in most statistical categories and often carry a team that was short on talent and long on youth.

I don't blame anyone for holding him accountable for his skills on the floor. That's how all players are judged and rightfully so. But, you'd think that Eddie Griffin was the second coming of Kevin Garnett with the way some of you guys are ready to dismiss his horrificly inconsistent play and off the court problems simply because he played well for another team in the preseason.

For once, a franchise doesn't coddle a spoiled player who breaks the law and we criticize them for it. WTF is up with that?
