Stupid! Just stupid! Why can't these players ever learn? I mean this is the LAST distraction this team needs in this race for the #8 seed in the playoffs. What a total selfish move by Griffin. I am a Griffin fan and really am sad to see this happen. Shame on you Griffin!
But at least it is still illegal. Between now and when pot smoking becomes leagal in this country, I pray he refrains from it. If he wants to smoke pot freely and legally, then move to The Netherlands and sign up to become Ajax' goalie. I am very dissapointed in Eddy because I expected him to learn from the mistakes of Rasheed, Motay and Lamar Odom. It is now obvious to me that these kids don't learn anymore. I hope and pray he rebounds from this and stays away from anything (like this) that will bring disrepute to himself and his team. Eddy be strong - You can definitely do better!
I tell ya... there is just no excuse for this. I just don't understand it. NBA players have fame, fortune, popularity... all they have to do is not break the law. So what do people like Eddie, and Mo do? They smoke pot. It's just stupid. It makes me realize just how brainless they are. What a great thing to show the children who watch them play. What a great way to keep their body in shape. What a great way to keep their mind sharp. I want to puke. -- droxford
First wire report... http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/gen/wire?messageId=10510185 HOUSTON (AP) _ Houston Rockets forward Eddie Griffin was released from jail Monday after he was arrested and charged with mar1juana possession Sunday night. Griffin posted $500 bond Monday and was released from jail. A Rockets spokesman declined to comment on the arrest Monday. Harris County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Martin told The Associated Press that Griffin was pulled over as he drove down Richmond Avenue in west Houston on Sunday night. It wasn't clear why he was stopped, she said. Houston police spokesman Joe Laud said Griffin was jailed just before 11 p.m. Sunday. He was arrested Precinct 5 Constable's office on a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a $4,000 fine and one year in jail. Griffin, 20, was traded to the Rockets from New Jersey in 2001 and is in his second NBA season. Griffin is averaging 8.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
I'm still preaching.... I hope Eddie DOES get suspended. I hope his suspension costs us the season. I hope the Rockets players learn that they need to take their lives more seriously, or they need to quit. I hope the Rockets management realizes that they should provide better guidance for the players. I hope this puts a serious hurt on us. Houston Rockets..... .... should be the Houston PotHeads -- droxford
By the way... a Class B is when you have a very small amount. Not our Eddie, though. No sir. He had a Class A - that's about a "dime bag" of pot. great job, Eddie. -- droxford
God forbid. We have a class organization and will remain that way. Our sport Franchizes have been class too from the Astros down to the Comets. If one or two players bring us bad name we will cut them out. Eddy beware.
Here we go again. But it's totally okay that so many NBA players get drunk at titty bars on a regular basis. I disapprove of Eddie breaking the law to the detriment of the team, but the law is DUMB. And it is actually a worse message to send to kids or whatever that it's okay to drink. It is worse and worse for you. I hope Eddie gets a good lawyer, learns the lesson about not smoking (or at least not getting caught) during the season and then smokes to his heart's content during the summer.
I always thought he looked high...guess I was right. Wasn't it C. Oakley that said most of the players smoke the hippie lettuce?
Kinds of makes you wonder about that quote a while back on ESPN Page 2, where some columnists mentioned Eddie Griffin and "those thugs he's hanging out with in Houston." Doesn't sound like he has a lot of guidance.
I learned the other day Stoudmare and Wallace got arrested, they had a whole bag of mar1juana in their car. Stoudmare not only smoke, he also sell it. How can they get away from this? Because they are famous, they have money. I am sick of this, that is why NBA lost many fans in recent years, it is full of sex, drug and punk.
I remember when RockHEAD put together a wallpaper-like graphic with a picture of weed and Mo Taylor on the other side. And instead of "I love this game," it was "I love this weed." rH, you have a new project to do my friend.
Si, but we have no way of knowing if this is his 1st or third, since the drug tests aren't public info. I assume we'll find out pretty soon ... Hopefully this will inspire some positive change for Eddie ...
I didn't say I hope he smokes -- I said I hope he smokes to his heart's content. In other words, I hope he does whatever he likes with regard to this relatively benign drug during a time when it can't harm the team. The ONLY thing wrong with it is that it's against the law. Anybody that has any other problem with it is a hypocrite if they don't feel the same way about all our players that drink.
