hrmmm, isn't it a little suspicious that eddie gets caught the day before they play the blazers? i think it was a setup! my theory is that damon, rasheed saw eddie partying at a local strip joint. eddie was getting a facial t*ttie massage from damon and rasheed's favorite exotic dancer. damon and rasheed got pissed for being dissed for getting no t*ttie play time. they broke into eddie's car and planted their stash in eddie's car. when eddie left the club, damon and rasheed called the POlice. the moral of the story kids...don't ever come between a nba player and their favorite stripper.
I am most upset that Eddie broke the law, and even more upset that this was not his first offense! First he has a warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket...and now he gets caught speeding again? I mean...doesnt he know that exceeding the speed limit is DANGEROUS and ILLEGAL? Lots of people die every year in traffic accidents caused at least in part by excessive speed, more so than the number of people who die of alcohol and drug abuse combined. I have also heard that speeding can be a gateway to other crimes...like reckless driving or exhibition of acceleration! We dont want Eddie going down that road of immorality...do we? I think we need to be supportive of our young star in this case, as many young people these days experiment with driving fast. I do not think a suspension is appropriate at this time...however I do believe a small fee and a day spent at a state licensed defensive driving class should be mandatory!
They both make me want to puke. But remember that Eddie's annual salary is more than three times as much as the salary of the president of the United States. -- droxford
Doesn't Eddie have an agent? Why didn't he call the guy and simply say "Hey, I've got this speeding ticket and I don't know what to do about it!" Agent, "Eddie, no biggie. Your in Houston, right? Here's the phone # of a guy that'll take care of it. Relax. This could come back to bite you. Let's get it taken care of." Eddie, "Uh, OK. I'll give him a call. Thanks, I was worried about it." Agent, "Cool. Turn it up, Ed. This is money time! You guys make the playoffs and we'll get some good pub. Just call the lawyer... nothin' to it. Later, bro." Why this scenario didn't occur, I have no idea. Maybe it's because Eddie is 20 and more than a bit immature. Perhaps he was embarassed to call his agent, or tell the Rocks front office, who would have most likely done the same thing. No outstanding unpaid speeding ticket equals no search of the car. I think we need to cut the guy some slack. He's a kid. And, as I mentioned before, the guy is innocent until proven guilty. But I think the Rockets staff and front office need to get more of a handle on what's up with their younger players. They really need some looking after. It's not like the old days when Rudy and Calvin were rooming together on the road. These guys are YOUNG. (or young in their brain... how many have 4 years of college??)
people get pulled over for that? Geez, next thing you know, cops will pull people over for only slowing down at a stop sign...
Your kidding! Sounds like we may have a little profiling going on here. Here's something that happened to me once, and I'm not a young black kid driving some hot wheels. "Sir, did you know you have a crack in your taillight? Step out of the car, please. Miss, you stay where you are." One cop walks me to the front of my car while the other looks all around inside with a flashlight... taking particular care to look around my girlfriend's lower regions while she's sitting there (she was a fox). After the search, while the other cop is talking to me about how I ALMOST ran that light about 8 blocks away (I'm not kidding) the cop who did the search walked to the back of my car. I hear a little tinkle of glass. I for SURE have a cracked taillight now. Get a ticket for it. The cops leave. My crime, as best as I can figure out, was that I had long hair and it was the late '60's. **** happens. Maybe it happened to Eddie.
Not according to the Chronicle: "Griffin, 20, was stopped for speeding down Richmond Avenue after Sunday's 114-93 victory over Orlando. After he was stopped, it was discovered Griffin had an outstanding warrant for another speeding violation, so he was taken into custody, and his Cadillac Escalade was impounded. "
"Sir, do you know that you have a broken tail light?" "No I don't!" "(Smashes tail light with night stick)...You do now!"
... maybe Eddie's arrest will be the shake-up he needs to refocus on his game. I don't know, I was reminded of this incident in 1997 ... nobody really remembers this any more, and C.Webb is thought of as a solid NBA citizen these days. Plus, his arrest was much worse. Webber arrested for mar1juana possession SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (AP) - In too much of a hurry to get to practice, former Michigan star Chris Webber ended up with a face full of pepper spray, six hours in jail and a mar1juana charge. After a routine traffic stop for speeding, the Washington Wizards forward was arrested yesterday and charged with assault, resisting arrest, possession of mar1juana, driving under the influence of mar1juana and five other traffic-related violations. All the charges are misdemeanors, and Webber, a member of Michigan's Fab Five recruiting class, will probably be tried before a District Court judge sometime this spring. Webber was released on his own recognizance. "We look forward to having the matter tried," said Webber's lawyer, Bruce Marcus. Webber avoided reporters by sitting in the back seat of his black, dark-windowed Lincoln Navigator as it departed from a rear exit of the Prince George's County District Court. Webber, 24, a former standout at Michigan who led the Wolverines to two NCAA championship games, was driving the Navigator, a sports utility vehicle, when he was stopped about 9:30 a.m. in Landover, Md., on the way to a 10 a.m. Wizards practice at the MCI Center in downtown Washington. According to the police report, Webber did not have a license or registration, and offered his credit card as proof of identification. The report said Webber was ''slow to answer'' questions, and struck the hand of the policeman when the officer went to open the car door. "The officer attempted to remove him," Prince George's police spokesman Royce Holloway said. "He resisted, an assault occurred. The pepper spray was deployed to the effect the arrest." Webber was handcuffed and taken to the police station. The car was impounded and searched, and officers found the stub of a mar1juana cigarette and ashes in the front center ash tray. There also were also traces of mar1juana leaves, ashes, stems and seeds on the rear floor board on the driver's side. Wizards general manager Wes Unseld said: "Until we have an opportunity to speak with Chris and the authorities involved in the incident, we will have no other comments
damn, he could get a year in jail for dis man......That hurts, but he's a b-ball player (famous) He'll pay himself out of it. Eddie, dude, with the way uve been playin, this is the last thing u needed man.......I luv ya man, but damn that was stupid. I mean, not only did u have weed, but changin lanes w/out signaling?? Sad....
No one thinks Webber is a solid citizen, the guy and his family was indicted by a federal grand jury for helping a guy with mob ties launder money. That's the lunacy of Gater's post, he lists Sacramento in that group and their number one player was busted for weed and was indicted in connection with helping a guy with Mob Connections launder money.
Not according to Eddie's lawyer... HOUSTON (AP) -- Rockets forward Eddie Griffin was arrested and charged with mar1juana possession after the car he was driving was stopped by police. Griffin posted $500 bond Monday and was released from jail. Griffin's attorney said he would enter an innocent plea. Griffin was pulled over for speeding Sunday night, Harris County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Martin told The Associated Press. He was cited for a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $4,000 fine and one year in jail. Griffin's attorney, Rusty Hardin, said that after Griffin was arrested on the traffic violation police searching his vehicle found a small amount of mar1juana. ``I don't know whose it was or where they found it,'' Hardin told the AP. A Rockets spokesman declined to comment on the arrest Monday, except to say that Griffin's playing status for Tuesday night's home game against Portland had not changed. Griffin did miss practice Monday morning. He had an outstanding warrant for another speeding citation, officials said. Hardin said officers pulled Griffin over because he didn't use a turn signal when making a lane change. Hardin said Griffin was arrested going home from a Rockets game. The 20-year-old forward was traded to the Rockets from New Jersey in 2001 and is in his second NBA season. He is averaging 8.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. Who do you believe the cops or Eddies lawyer? Ok... your right, never believe the lawyer.
Has anybody seen the little thimg where he appoligized for what he did and he would put it behind his back!! Damn how many times did he say he was sorry!! He look like he was bout to cry!! Damn!
People want to crucify him for possession of a naturally occuring plant. In case you didn't know, moderate use of mar1juana doesn't really effect you the next day. It's not like the Rockets are playing while high. Maybe you forgot that he got arrested AFTER they beat the hell out of Orlando. Did it occur to anyone that their sporadic play could be a function of age rather than flying off the handle and demonizing them as potheads? Get a clue. Why don't you drive down to the ship channel area and crucify some of those refineries and chemical companies for LEGALLY dumping thousands of tons of deadly chemicals into the air and water of Houston instead. That stuff causes cancer and birth defects in case you hadn't heard. Get your priorities straight.
