Why would Arizona trade him? He is having a great year and is signed relatively cheaply through 2012. I know you wrote "pipe dream", but there are many players/pitchers who aren't about to be traded that would also be a pipe dream.
Rankings 28. Arizona Diamondbacks, NPV: $22.48 million Top 100 Prospects: Jarrod Parker (29) Arizona's farm system has struggled, as it's in the transition stage. The Diamondbacks have graduated a lot of their past top prospects. They've been college-heavy in the last few drafts, and it might be time for them to mix in a few high-upside type players. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/farm-system-value-rankings-part-one/
Lets get Pujols while we are at it too. then our lineup could be bourn cf pence rf berkman c pujols 1b lee lf tejada ss bagwell (lh) 3b matsui 2b
Unless they are giving up on the next couple of years as well, there is no reason to trade a proven major league starter for unproven prospects.
Which is what you do when a player is on the last year of his contract or is making ridiculous sums of money. Haren is neither.
this board is so schizo about the astros it's hilarious "trade all these players!! rebuild!!!!" "add players to this core!!! we're going to win!!!!" it's like richard justice is the admin or something. who in the world are we going to trade that someone else is going to want that will acquire us an impact player??? because i've heard over and over and over again there isn't a player in our system worth a damn.
Exactly what I was thinking. So many people were frustrated with Drayton for depleting the farm to essentially grasp at the last few remaining competitive straws at the major league level. And now, when the team is finally starting to turn things around in the farm system, we want to give any decent players we have away, just for the slim chance of making the playoffs? It's nice that we're competitive. And I'd be ecstatic if the team has a strong second half like their accustomed. But even if they manage to win the division or WC, I'd still rather them go to war with the players already on the roster instead of mortgaging their future again. Of course if an opportunity presents itself that's too good to pass up, then sure why not.
