Reed underwent a lengthy physical when he visited the Texans before agreeing to sign in Houston. This wasn’t an issue that came up then. http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexan...ed-reed-back-mid-training-camp-at-the-latest/
They gave him a lengthy physical. This is something that probably just started bothering him a bit and they wanted to nip it as soon as they could. We're lucky it was minor and not the same hip as 2010.
Of course they gave him a physical. That was a joke on my part. Doesn't change the fact that Ed has been a headache every off season for different reasons for quite some time now. Still think he will be active week one, and be a valuable player. But he's a player on serious decline, and this certainly doesn't help. Especially now that he's on a new team.
Ravens suspected Reed had hip problem, Texans apparently didn’t This really is looking like Ahman Green redux. I'm going to be surprised if Reed lasts more than a year with the Texans.
Thats all Reed needs to go out as a 2 time Super Bowl Champ! In 2 years Swearinger will be an All-Pro Safety.
Such hyperbole. Puke. This is a short-term signing. They thought Ahman would be around for a while. They want Reed here for a year or two to help against New England and to mentor Swearinger.
Ahman Green signed a 4 year, $23 million dollar deal with 6 million in guarantees. Reed signed a 3 year $15 million dollar deal with 5 million guaranteed. So, basically, each was signed for one guaranteed year. The only reason Green wasn't cut after year one is because he agreed to restructure. I don't think anybody was expecting Green to be around a while considering where he was in his career. Same can be said for Reed. It's not hyperbole. It's a pretty apt comparison. An over the hill free agent signee with undisclosed injury problems.
Mike Sherman expected Green to be around for a while. Trust me on that. They don't expect Reed to be around for more than a year. It's why they took Swearinger where they did. And, yes, it is hyperbole. You're acting like the sky is falling and that the Texans are idiots for signing him. Furthermore, Ahman couldn't hold Ed's jockstrap.
In what way? He is going to be ready for the year according to everyone in the know and will mentor Swearinger to take his place next year. I guess I just do not get how this can be labeled a bad signing right now? This forum is full of knee-jerk reactions about everything. It is annoying as hell.
Heard Dr. Kenneth First on 610 yesterday saying he didn't believe it was possible for Reed to be ready by the start of the regular season. I don't think it's knee jerk to be concerned about a 35 year old safety coming off an undisclosed injury that requires surgery.
I'm sure you're more qualified to comment on the prognosis for return to action from a surgery than a surgeon.
ohhh i'm so scared. what's the worst that can happen? chad henne going to carve us up for 400 yards? never going to happen, not even in henne's dreams. ever!
The Reed signing may turn out to be a mistake, but at least the Texans attempted to buy an insurance policy in Swearinger. If Reed never gets on the field then the money could have been used elsewhere, but sometimes you have to take risks. If Reed does play and gives the Texans the center fielding ballhawk they expected then it was worth the gamble.
If signing Reed was a mistake, it was a one-year mistake because of the contract. Someone should tell Reed blind-sided hits should be done on the field and to opponents.
