BTW, did she do any type of delivery confirmation at all? I mean I always do that and if I didn't I would definitely do it with an expensive item such as the one sold.

To be fair to EBay/Paypal, emails can easily be faked. If they accepted them as evidence, the new type of fraud would be not delivering items and then creating fake emails stating the item had been mailed. Of course, since all the evidence they need is a delivery confirmation, you could also deliver an empty box and commit fraud that way.

It is stupid that they suspended her account due to all that - that makes no sense. :(

I've been saying it for months and taking flak for it, but using paypal, especially as a seller, is like signing your entire bank account away to someone else.

    Never, ever, ever use paypal.

Seriously, eBay is fine. From now on, just demand money orders or checks for payment. Screw PayPal.

You can chalk it up as lesson learned.

When selling anything of value, you only ship to confirmed address which is what paypal requires to protect the seller. Use FedEx or UPS as they have insurance w/ tracking and delivery confirmation that ebay requires to protect the seller. You should insure the value of the item and not save a couple of bucks on insurance. If the item is over a couple of hundred bucks, always require adult signature.

USPS does not have a reliable tracking system in place and insurance is extra. That's why real businesses only use UPS, FedEx or DHL and not USPS for all their shipping.

There are lots of scammers out there, both seller and buyers. Don't trust anybody and always protect yourself.

Emails can be faked but not if both parties use the ebay messaging services.

I would call up paypal directly and talk to the customer reps. I did this once, talk to them for a while, talked to their manager, and their manager's manager and finally got my money back.

Auctions that require Checks or MO usually don't go for as high a value as auctions that have option for paypal.

    What he said...

I know you don't think it's worth the time and effort, but I'd file a police report for theft. This person stole the book from you. Maybe the police recover the book, you get a police report stating as such, and then ebay and paypal have no choice but to refund her money. Not saying the police would actually do something to help, but you might get lucky.

I ordered a couple of items of eBay from some guy in Washington and, as I'm in the habit of doing, PayPal'd the amount to the seller once it was confirmed I had won (this was Sept. 4th). I got an email from Paypal confirming the payment and it included a receipt ID #.

After a couple of weeks I sent the guy an email asking where the item was, seeing as how he hadn't gotten in contact with me with any shipping info (like most people do). He assured me that he'd sent the items already and that they should be here any day now. After a couple of more weeks I tried to contact him again, to no answer. I got his contact info from eBay, also no answer. I send a complaint to eBay, and they say to file a complaint through Paypal. Paypal asks me for a transaction #, which can be found in my account history. However, Paypal now says they don't have a record of the transaction although my credit card statement has it sitting right there. So, I can't get a transaction #. I tell Paypal this and send them a copy of the receipt #, but they say they can't begin the complaint process with the receipt #. So, I've had to go back to eBay and basically just say I've paid directly with a credit card, not through PP. I'm getting very annoyed.

I'd urge you to reconsider that. It may not be worth trying to sue Ebay or the woman. But, calling the sheriff and filing a complaint isn't that much trouble. Maybe you won't get a conviction from it, but it will give her some hassle.

I only use paypal for bank account transactions, not credit card transactions. Sounds like this is a good reason not to upgrade my account to take credit card payments.

Seriously, I hate hearing stories about honest people getting fuvked up, and yet, I hear them from time to time, and it's just none stopping, and the sad thing is that Paypal or Ebay are selected to not knowing the truth.

I used Paypal because I have no other choice, but Paypal sucks dic. Their fee is high, and service is bad.

I don't know... I've been walking around with a check in my wallet for Mr. Davi... for Clutch. For weeks. Everytime I remember it, I don't have a stamp, or it's 3am, or some damn, stupid thing. I was going to go the paypal route just to do that. Now, I think I'll buy some stamps!

long story short....last year i sold $1200 worth of speakers to a guy using paypal,...i recieved my $1200...but i didnt transfer the funds to my bank account, instead what i did was spend the entire amount immiedalty on stuff over the internet using my paypal account,....then the guy receives his speakers,...but files a claim that i didnt mail them...unfortuntely i didnt get any reciepts nor did i request a signed at delivery confirmation(like what happened to jeffs gf here)....so paypal takes his side, EVEN though i said in my ebay ad NO REFUNDS...paypal and ebay banned me, and then paypal tried to take $1200 out of my bank account, but luckily within the same day, i knew ALREADY what paypal does, so i closed my bank account the same day the claim was filed, and i got a new bank account with another bank......

i still to this day get letters from that bank wanting their $1200...supposidly what happened , is the bank is so stupid, they GAVE paypal $1200, EVEN Though my balance was zero...so now my balance is -$1200...I HAVENT PAID IT IN A YEAR and im not going to...since its out of state i cant get in trouble.

that guy has his speakers AND his $1200 back....btw, the auction was as-is and no refunds...

long story short, i dont use paypal no more, and only use money orders for ebay....i dont sell anymore... i had another guy buy something from me and file a claim since it "arrived 1 week longer than he expected"...sheesh...technically ive been banned from ebay about 2 times and paypal 2 times....ive had enough

oh yeah, and the guy that bought my speakers even filed a police report on me for internet fraud, only to make himself look "innocent" ...ironically everything i bought with that $1200 i have now given away or trashed because it was all for an ex-girlfriend...sheesh what a nightmare that was...he even threatend to come to my house and hurt me but yet the police side with him? i never heard anything from the cops, because when you buy over the net its "buyer beware".....its only "seller beware" if your using ebay/paypal....basically if you want to scam someone you can whether your a buyer or seller...its whoever knows the system inside and out
