Yeah i too thought that was a bad trade. I guess i was wrong. wesley has shot much better recently and his defense is better than Jim Jackson's.

Hmmm, 1 innocuous post resulted in 3 personal flames. I'm really impressed by the maturity of some members of this BBS.

no...actually that should tell you something about how little patience most of us have for posts that suck.

this board has gone through a period of people letting stupid posts fly without saying something...but that is ending.

it is time to bring this board back to the type of posts it was known for a few short years ago.

Well first of all, you ignored the fact that there was already an existing thread on David Wesley. Just because I said that it was a good deal didn't mean EVERYBODY in the thread has to agree with me. You could have easily done your post without starting a new thread about it (which is what happened any way with the merging of the two).

As a lurker, you would think that you would know that you have to look at the existing threads (at least those on the first page of the forum) before starting a new one. I can understand if you are new AKA having registered this month or the one before it but you have been registered for over a year here (hell since July 2002!).

Then whether or not you really feel that the Wesley trade was a bad one, you posted your dislike right AFTER the guy has probably, arguably, his best game as a Rocket. That right there smacks of wanting attention ("Look at me! I am going to disagree so I can be different! I want attention!!"). Especially considering you basically had NO points to backup your position (well one but it was weak). One thing about this place is that you better support your position with some good arguments or you will get shredded.

I wholeheartedly agree with Rockets2K - I normally don't post in the GARM (at least not like I used to) but instead of whining and complaining about it, I have decided to do something about it. I am going to be a part of the solution and that solution includes stomping out needless posts. If you find that immature, too bad for you. I find it wanting to make the GARM better.

Yeah, I thought the trade really sucked, too. Obviously, whoever orchestrated it (JVG, CD, or both) saw something we didn't..... Or what they saw was incorrect but have just happened to get lucky. :) Either way, I'll take it.

Stat wise, not much sets Wesley and JJ apart.

I had maintained that this trade was about changing chemistry and intagibles and thats exactly what it has done.

If you judge this trade soley on individual stats, then you are missing the much bigger picture.

For the most part I agree with Codell. But I will also add, something else that sets Wesley and JJ apart is 1) Wesley's "quickness" and 2) Wesley's ball movement.

The league is moving towards quick players and this team needed to get quicker. We moved Tmac down to the 3 and brought in Wesley at the 2. We gained quickness which important these days with the hand checking rule being called. Wesley also makes quicker decisions with the basketball, he will swing it to the open man whereas JJ would hang onto it for a while.

I didnt look up the stats but I wouldnt be surprised if Sura's game has improved greatly with JJ gone as well. Sura has taken on that 3rd scorer role that JJ had last season.

and to add to what both codell and Deuce said....

Wesley is much quicker getting thru picks and recovering when his man stops and starts to shoot...

Ive seen it quite often....he is just flatout quicker defensively than JJ was..

    Exactly.

Next to Cat, we haven't had a player as adept as Wesley has been at "chasing" guys through picks and screens.

I love it how, even when he gets picked, hell still get an arm in front of the shooter to try and bother him.

JJ just wasn't quick enough to chase shooters coming off screens/picks and T-Mac shouldn't be in that position period.

I just wanted to add that I was very proud of the Rockets last night, particularly Sura, Wesley, Barry, and Yao in that order.

Since this is a Wesley thread, i'll go into something that brought a huge smile to my face yesteday. After the Rockets scored with something like 3-4 seconds left in the quarter (or something like that), the Lakers inbounded. All I noticed was Wesley coming out of nowhere, full tilt, and defending the LA ballhandler... putting great and intense defensive pressure without fouling. The Lakers failed to score and if they did, it surely wouldn't have been on Wesley's hands.

That was one of the plays that I cheered the most. I fell in love with Wesley then [(yes, i'd marry him too) if it was legal]

First, your first post did not have anything to say without the title.

Secondly, you also ignored the fact that we already has a thread running about the Wesley trade and you can easily post your opinion there.

Thirdly, you definitely chose a wrong time to start a thread like that to inflame Wesley. I mean, right after Wesley played his best game as a Rockets, and actually after a string of rock solid games, a thread like this is ridiculous.

Finally, did you care to take a look at our record after the Wesley trade? There are lots of factors that contribute to the turnaround of the Rockets, and yet the Wesley factor is right there among the most influential ones.

I was upset at losing JJ more than anything, and I don't think I could see past that at the time to even consider positives Wesley could bring the Rockets. How stupid and short-sighted I was. I absolutely LOVE what David has brought to the team. With he and Barry here, it's amazing how much the Rockets push the ball every time there's a chance. It's true that so much of what those two do dosen't show up on the stat sheet. Much as I loved JJ, the whole element of pushing the ball was just not there. Not to mention that I totally did not give Wesley any respect for his defensive game. The guy has been busting his butt big time on defense and it shows. I think he had something like 4 steals yesterday? Considering our record since the trade, it's hard to argue.

I apologize, Mr. Wesley, I was a fool.

I loved getting Wesley as I told you at the time of the deal. I said that he is gonna be great. I think he hasn't shown all what he is capable of, especially at defensive end. Anyway, I think he can be clutch piece of Rox Puzzle for the year. We need a good PF though.
But I think that Rockets will surprise somehow this year.

I am curious as to how JJ has been doing with the Suns, anyone has his stats so far for him on phoenix? I've yet to see a suns game since the trade.

Wesley has been solid as much as I liked JJ I felt from the begining of the season if the Rockets were going to make a move to make the team better JJ was our only real tradeable asset. A good vet player with a good contract. At first I felt Boki+JJ was too much for Wesley alone (hoping for a pick also) but Wesley has been instrumental in this teams turnaround. Also it has given Boki a chance to play seeing how he more than likely would have not here with JVG as the coach.
