Not sure if they are showing footage of this in the US but NZ has just suffered a second earthquake in the last 6 months and the damage is very significant. The footage that is coming through on the tv screens here in Australia is very disturbing and there are reports of multiple casualities with numerous buildings collapsing and many people unaccounted for.

The earthquake hit at 12.50pm so many were in their offices.

Watching this footage like is heartbreaking.

Why are there so many natural calamities now-a-days?

How powerful was it on the Richter Scale? I'm sorry to hear about this. New Zealand has been having these damn things more often lately, it seems.

    Was a 6.3

They had a 7.1 back in September which seemed to have weaken a lot of the structures.

    thanks

this time was not as big as the september last year, but think this time is a lot shallower. Was listening to the news and they have just started to pull bodies our of collapsed buildings.

It was 6.3, but I think I read on CNN that there were a couple of 5.5+ aftershocks.

    Scary.

Sucks. Not trying to sound dramatic or like a downer, its just the way the world has always been :(

This is horrible news. The filming of The Hobbit can't afford anymore delays!

    (sorry)

I think its more the matter of a 24 hour news cycle and the world shrinking. Twenty years ago, how many people would have known about the protests in the Middle East?

Or what Chad Johnson had yesterday for breakfast for that matter.

My heart goes out to those people in Christchurch.

    :( this is awful!

I saw some footage and was shocked. I hope the death toll won't be so significant.
