No one would trade the #1 pick for Westbrook today (the #1 pick in the draft, not a #1 pick).

Bush hasn't been an every down back since his high school days. I'll continue to say he can't be as long as his coaches won't let him be.

I don't disagree that Bush is similar in size and style to Metcalf and Westbrook. I also believe he will have greater impact. Which is why so many people (including me) before the draft considered Bush the best RB prospect in years and the consensus #1 pick in the draft. 'Course, we know that the Texan front office did agree with the others. Nor do you. And reportedly, neither does the boob in Dallas, fwiw.

btw, Westbrook or Metcalf (using a time machine) would sure look in a Texan uniform, no? If for the only reason that I won't have to read about how Ron Dayne might be the "missing piece"...

'Course, its possible that some RB will be the next "Reggie Bush" in next year's draft (eg Peterson). I sure hope that Houston isn't in a position to get a shot at that type of RB. Doesn't take the sting away that they had that shot this year though...

He had 25 total touches, including 14 rushes (more than Eric Metcalf averaged in his highest rushing year). I don't see why he can't be an every down back. Lots of guys have split carries in college, including Cadillac and Ronnie Brown.

It's getting common around the NFL to split carries among RBs. It's not just with Bush.

Besides Ryans, who was awesome, Carr did pretty well. It's good to see Moulds and Andre getting a lot of receptions downfield. He still needs to feel the rush better though.

Oops... I got goaded into posting "the name we are not supposed to post"... my apologies, I will go back to looking forward to Williams sacking Peyton Manning and wreaking havoc all along the Colts offensive line. That's why we drafted him, no? :)

I was at the game today, and I can tell you that in that first quarter the place was rocking. This city is just waiting for this team to bust out, but in the end it was the same old Texans.

On another note, Carr looked great. The Texans problems however have not changed. No protection, and no pressure means no victory.

As well as Fox, CBS, NBC and the NFL Network. And don't forget KTRK, KPRC and KHOU...

I will from this point forward and until I am proven wrong refer to our number one pick as Mario Wadsworth. He is the anti-impact player. Good job Texans you drafted the perfect player to match this team's existence to this point.

Our running game was ****e all day; I'm thinking there might have been more help available in the draft than Wali "my whole family is cursed and I still can't run the damn ball" Lundy.

I'm betting next year there is some impressive looking yet underacheiving center we can pass on Adrian Peterson for. I want the frickin Oilers back.

That's not entirely true. Now we have the additional problem of "no running game." I just read McClain's story on the chron website. From their quotes, the team appears to have been frankly surprised at how sucky they were.

Gonna be a long season. That could be a good OR a bad thing at this point.

Of which Oilers do you mean? The current incarnation; still ringless and still with Bud Adams as the owner and could end up last in the division this year? I think I'd rather stick with our Texans.

Or the teams of the Luv Ya Blue and Run n Shoot eras? Who didn't love watching them but we can't live in the past.

I feel sorry for David Carr he really played very well when we picked up the blitz. He was actually calm in the pocket, made lots of plays downfield. It's not his fault the defense couldn't get off the field and give the offense the ball. He shouldn't be getting any blame. Mario Williams and Kubiak's selection of MW should be target of peoples frustration. He has zero moves and he did nothing even though he was double teamed like once or twice in the whole game, on some plays he was manhandled by a single tight end. The bottom line is that after one game he looks like a total bust. We have zero running game and we passed on the most talented RB and offensive weapon to come along in years, for a big untalented slow DE who had a couple of good games against mediocre ACC opponents where he could dominate against guys smaller and slower guys, who didn't even play hard in college and didn't play hard today. Super Mario, is super crappy. A little exaggerated but for now he is Courtney Brown or Andre Wadsworth to me and to the rest of the league.

I was at the game today. Here are some observations:

-We were beat in the trenches BADLY today, on both sides of the ball.

-If you're going to blame one person for the loss today, blame #21 Lewis Sanders. I'm thinking the Faggin injury is going to hurt us more than I thought. Sanders was abused all day long.

-Dunta Robinson is a STUD. Maybe the best player on the defense. He had some great plays today.

-The Eagles are for real. Very tenatious defense, McNabb is back at 100%, Stallworth will be his #1 target all year long. I wouldn't be surprised to see them come out of the NFC this year.

-Carr wasn't as bad as people think, but he seemed to get worse at the game went along. He had a bad 2nd half.

-The bootlegs weren't fooling the Phili D at all. They are clearly well coached and were ready for them.

-Lot's of Eagles fans at the game today but, surprisingly, most were pretty cool. Not as obnoxous as I thought they would be. One had a shirt that said simply "Dallas sucks". I think they may hate dallas more than we do.

-Reliant was ELECTRIC after that first drive. It was pretty loud the whole 1st half, but that TD right before halftime really sucked the life out of us. We thought we were going to go in at halftime tied at 10. I went to get a beer at halftime and when I came back, it was 24-10!

And this will be their first season without competition. Actually, Cadillac didn't have competition last year. He was injured too much. Ronnie Brown split with Ricky Williams. We don't yet know how they'll hold up as they've only played one season.

I'm not one here to name call. However, you dips***s craping on the Texans and Mario AFTER ONE FREAKING GAME are just dumb. He's a bust after 1 game? Someone else here said that Julius Peppers didn't even have a tackle in his first game. He turned out fairly well. There is no way any of you know anything about what he will become.

Looked a ton like the 2005 Texans to me. Carr sacked multiple times. Zero pressure on the opposing QB. Secondary picked apart. Very little to be excited about offensively. Very disappointing.

Mario Wadsworth has done nothing for 5 games now. He doesn't even warrant conversation other than the fact that he was supposed to be this game changing freak of nature on defense. Noone can say they have seen an inkling of that from Mr. Wadsworth.

are you sure the texans are an NFL team?

i hate to rehash this...but this was my argument all along. the texans are, effectively, starting over. they're depending on a ton of young talent. that is the time to bring in and develop a young QB, in my mind. it's not as if we were staring at a team ready for a playoff berth.
