Undrestood, but as one of those who did get excited seeing a well-executed drive at the start of the game, I don't think it is unreasonable for fans of a two-win team get excited like that. To me it wasn't a little thing. Unfortunately, neither was the complete absence of a rush. The preseason is already a faint memory, so hopefully someone can help out... was Williams getting sacks during the preseason games?
Reggie Bush runs for more than 140 yards of offense today. Mario Williams records one tackle. ONE. Demeco Ryans appears to be a much more potent defensive stopper than Mario Williams is. It's still sickening to think that the Texans passed on Reggie, and even more sickening that it's going to stay that way. We could have used 140 yards of offense today a little more than the one tackle Mario provided.
Guess who's pic is on ESPN's front page?? You guessed it... The Mario Williams apologists really don't have to worry about Texans fans questioning the pick, because ESPN will be doing plenty of it themselves... Don't worry, at least Vince Young hasn't done anything significant yet...
Hmm... I don't think us Texan (0-1) fans are in a strong position to belittle another team's win, even if it was against the Browns (Oliver's Theorem of Woofing may come back to haunt us on December 31). I have a hunch that New Orleans fans will be pretty happy to have that win. I also have a hunch they are pretty grateful to us Houstonians (and not just for all the support we gave after Katrina)...
everyone is making excuses for mario williams "it's just one game" "he's getting double teamed" "yea reggie bush did that against who? cleveland?" no one is making any excuses for reggie bush, because there is no reason to. He is as advertised. just watching mario williams movements/quickness compared to jevon kearse...you know this guy isn't the next coming of julius peppers... even D. fergason could of helped us today..especially helped carr boy
I hate moral victories. But I'll try... if you thought it could get no worse. How bad would we have lost with dumbass Dom at the helm? My bet 52-3. Carr sacked 12 times. Offense less than 100 yds. and McNabb pulled by halftime because it would already be 42-0. Haha! Seriously, McNabb was unfortunately already in midseason form and he had a wall of granite around him and oh yes, we couldnt run the ball. But, Carr did not lose this one! The Eagles took it from us. The road to respectability starts with a painful thud.
you may be right, I don't know. I do know this. The Texans had one hell of a draft sans the # 1 pick. They are being built correctly this time. Carr looked solid out there, and I have faith in Kubiak. We can easily fix the running game with a mid to high pick next year, but if you saw what I saw today and last season, the defense sux and needs much help. This is why we took Mario. Maybe he becomes what we need, maybe he doesn't. There is a risk factor in every pick. But Bush didn't help us win this game today.
im all for mario getting 18 sacks a year and anchoring a defense/intimidating the opposition, but its looking more and more likethis guy happened to be in the right place at the right time... i hope the time it takes the texans organization from being THE laughing stock of the NFL to respectable, is sooner than later.
with our schedule, it's going to get worse before it gets better. If you can keep your head up long enough, you will be rewarded by a much improved team as the season progresses.
Didn't you just basically post the same thing on the last page? Mario may or may not be the next Peppers, but having the "end of the world" mentality after his first game in the NFL is silly. The fact is that it WAS his first NFL game and was going up against a pretty good OL and a pro-bowl QB in McNabb. This isn't making up excuses, this is the truth. IF Bush had a bad day today, would you be making excuses for him? I guarantee you we'd be hearing the exact same things you mentioned above. BTW, Peppers didn't even record a single tackle in his first NFL game, I think he turned out okay.
The Texan's say they took Mario to finally give them a pass rush they never had, but then they bench him on passing situations. That says a whole lot to where they think he is. It looks more and more like the Texans wasted their top pick on a okay DT. And yes, Ryans looks like a pro-bowler out there.
actually the truth is the texans lost. mario williams had no impact. and the saints won. Reggie bush did not have a bad game and made an impact. thats the truth. I hope mario can step it up next week and not get owned again... what planet do you reside from?
Yeah the journey of 1.000 miles begins with a single step only today it looked like 93,000,000 miles. Problem is when the Texans took that step a hamstring snapped and they moved a millimeter. LOL. Oh well, KEEP HOPE ALIVE! We're only going to Indy next week. Wait, oh ****! My bad. Growing pains suck!
Interesting observation. And with all the rookies starting this game, you have to be optimistic. But besides Demeco, how did the other rookies do? Williams (#1) was a non-factor. I know Daniels (#4) looked bad on one of the sacks by letting the guy go by to flatten Carr. I don't think he caught any passes, and Putzier seemed to be in most of the game. I know a few of the sacks came through Carr's blindside and Spencer (#3a) was over there, but it seems to me they came on blitzes where Spencer was probably overloaded. I don't know if Winston (#3b) played at all. Lundy (#5) had a few glimmers, but he had a pretty mediocre start at RB. I am hopeful that these players will be solid starters, but I do recall that prior to the draft folks were thinking that at least three solid starters had to come from this draft.
Nice to see we give the same patience to Mario as we did other top prospects (in all of Houston sports). Forget about Bush (and Young for that matter); they don't exist. Focus just on Mario. Would people be rushing to the same conclusions after just one regular season game. Maybe he won't have an immediate impact, but it's way to early to tell how much of an impact he'll have period.
Teams win and lose in the trenches and both our lines sucked today. Even Reggie Bush would struggle behind the blocking of our line today, though I'd like to have seen him try. As for Williams, rough day for the rook. Fortunately, one game does not a career make. Carr was surprisingly poised. I kinda figured he'd be better with the additional weapons, but he actually stayed calm in the pocket and threw the ball downfield without all the dumpoffs. No happy feet and no bad decisions. It helps to have good players to throw to as well. He had 18 completions, but he'd have had 22 or so if guys hadn't dropped throws on him. Pretty impressive. The secondary was awful, but we knew that. As many have suggested and I thought as well, Ryans may be on the road to defensive rookie of the year honors. That kid is terrific. If they can't fix the problems on the o-line and find a way to get a pass rush, it is going to be a very long season.
