I haven't played video games for a while now, but I use to be a huge sports fan on PS2. And I remember the NBA Live series use to be kick ass. When the hell did 2k series start beating the **** Live?

And I have a ps3 and I'm going to graduate early and will have about 9 months of free time and plan on watching dvds and getting back to sports games on ps3. So should I be loyal to NBA Live 08 or go with 2k8?

A lot of people like the 2k8 series, but the last time I played that (with shaq on the cover, maybe in 01 or 02), it sucked really badly. I remember their was a bug that would allow you to block the second free throw if you timed it right so I'm still skeptical about the 2k series.

NBA 2K is better! Plus, in a ascreen shot over at NBA 2K website, they have Scola on the Rockets roster. ;)

naw i played 2k7 and live 07 on the 360 the overall graphics of 2k7 wasn't on the same level as live. think about the the main menus on the 2k7 was weak and the floor was too shiny when u view it far away the labels of the button were blurry and the people were darker than usual. look at tmac in that game he looked way darker than real life

Yeah, but FIFA has the Dynamo in it. Winning Eleven? Not so much. FIFA wins by default.

You need not be skeptical of the 2k series...its unreal.

There is no question as to which game you should get.

As a huge basketball fan, let me say this:

NBA 2k7 (360) is my favorite video game of all-time. Its a sim unlike the arcadey NBA Live. The realism of the "real" NBA is captured in 2k7 and Live was more like a NBA Jam, too fake, a one trick pony. 2k7 rocks. I totally recommend 2k8. The demo for the new Live was great though, so I'll be getting both.

What a lie that demonstration was. The graphics didn't look anything like that in Live 07. And I'm pretty sure Tmac didn't move like that.

Not to mention that NBA Live 07 was never even released on PS3. Don't know why they decided to demo it on the hardware, and then decide to cancel it 6 months later.

Wait, actually I do know why...it sucked.

I just played the demo on the PS3. Its actually really impressive. Great frame rate and graphics fr smooth gameplay. Most of the faces look good too.

Serious question for those of you planning on getting both...Why? Its already hard enough to dedicate enough time to one game...but two basketball games? 99% chance one of them wont be played more than an hour. Just seems like a waste of a game.

The frame rate on the PS3 demo is terrible. Or at least very inconsistent, based on what I played anyway. It starts off at a smooth 60 FPS, but in the few games I played, it will start chugging really bad during certain points of the game (for no apparent reason), and stay that way for a while.

The visuals were nice and the gameplay was better than I expected though. As mentioned several times already, (way?) better than expected, but not really close to NBA 2K8 (or at least, what I expect from 2K8).
