Overall, I thought MS looked ok. The Project Natal thing does look like its pretty interesting. That one announcement may have saved them in the grades when its all done. Sony dropped the ball on that one. The PS Eye is a more basic version of Natal and they failed to capitlize on it. I don't know if MS will make this thing worthwhile, but I think its a nice start. Down the line I could see more uses for it in more than just games. Good stuff. Also, listening to the announcement Kojima never said anything about exclusive, timed or otherwise. All he said was that it was coming to the 360. And yes, it is a spinoff. Looking forward to tomorrow.
I don't really care much about metal gear (though I respect the series), but how? Is there another series Kojima is working on? Because if not, and he's behind this, then it is essentially the next Metal Gear. He has stated that Snake's story is done. This is the next one. I can't believe that all the sudden because it goes multiplat, Sony fans are trying to down play the next game in the series they are supposed to love.
Honestly, I could care less. Whatever system you choose is great for you. I call it a spinoff because MGS, like it or not, goes pretty much hand in hand with Snake. Thats the core of the series. Will it be just as good? Probably, but it isn't Snake's story. I guess ODST isn't a spinoff of Halo to you either then? It really all semantics I suppose, but IMO it falls in line as a spinoff. Again, I'm sure it will be a good game. Its not like you couldn't see Kojima coming to the 360. Not really a jaw-dropper there. Now when FFXIII was announced last year that was surprising.
When I was watching it, they asked the audience what PS3 franchise everybody wished was on the 360 and I immediately thought of God of War. Then they said MGS and I was like "Oh, that too, I guess".
I still don't see it as a spinoff. We've only really played as Snake in MGS1 and MGS4. The other two involved Raiden and Big Boss. This one seems like it's going back to Raiden. I understand that Snake is synonomous with the MGS franchise but with Kojima repeteadly saying that Snake's story arch is over, it lends me to believe this is going to be his new vision of MGS. I can't wait to see what this game looks and plays like. I love the MGS series and I'm looking forward to the evolution of the series!
GoW is made by Sony, so it isn't going anywhere. In fact, MGS is (or..um..was) probably the last notable 3rd party Sony exclusive, at least that I can think of. Unless you want to count Versus...but I wouldn't doubt it if MS wants that to be a surprise too. But basically, all major PS3 exclusives from now on are either developed by Sony, or their IP is owned by Sony. I could see some Sony partners (e.g., Insomniac) maybe decide to go multiplatform though. And yeah, I don't really see the new MGS as a spinoff. I know I'm pretty excited about it. edit: Oh yeah, Quantum Theory is still PS3 exclusive: <div class="gametrailers_embed_container>"<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=50180"/><param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=50180" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object><div style="font-size: 10px; font-family: Verdana; text-align: center; width: 480px; padding-top: 2px; padding-bottom: 2px; background-color: black; height: 32px;"><div><a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com" title="GameTrailers.com">Video Games</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/game/10366.html" title="Quantum Theory">Quantum Theory</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/50180.html" title="E3 09: Run and Gun Gameplay">E3 09: Run and Gun Gameplay</a></div><div style="padding-top: 3px;"><a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/xb360/index.html" title="XBox 360">XBox 360</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/ps3/index.html" title="PS3">Playstation 3</a> | <a style="color:#FFFFFF;" href="http://www.gametrailers.com/platformlist/wii/index.html" title="Wii">Nintendo Wii</a></div></div> Maybe MS can try to bring this masterpiece to the 360 as well though, or at least a spinoff. (wow, that was a lot of sarcasm).
