Gears of War this, Gears of War that... Resistance 2 is just as good. Nobody knows it because so few picked up Resistance 1. Those Gears/UT games are the Texas Tech offense of FPS.
I just bought Gears of War 1 after playing it a long time ago, and I'm honestly not terribly impressed. It's just not super fun for me. Neither was Resistance. I'm kinda bored with FPS where you fight generic super beast aliens. Give me games like Call of Duty 4 or Bioshock over GOW or Resistance any day of the week.
I think they're just going to eliminate the 40GB and the 80GB will replace it. Then as for the current $499 package I think they might do away with or come out with a higher-capacity, game-included bundle. Doesn't muddle it up, and for someone who already has a PS3, I don't really care how many new SKUs they throw out there. If you want to talk about confusing SKU set-ups then look at MS.
Why has so few pick up Resistance 1?? If I ever get a ps3 in the future that game would be on my list since its a FPS. But still waiting for PS3 drop their prices again so I can justify the purchase. You have to admit that GOW is the @#$& !!
Bioshock has an very rich atmosphere and style that makes it stand out from most other FPS's. The story is pretty cool too.
That or they only played Resistance for a few hours and came to the conclusion that it was nothing special. I think Resistance actually made me get bored of the basic (single-player) gameplay in COD4, and I probably would have gotten tired of BioShock if it wasn't for the RPG-esque elements (good story helped, but I'm talking gameplay here). I don't particularly care for generic super beast aliens either, although it does help give you some leeway when it comes to weapon design and gameplay scenarios. Yeah, I'm assuming they'll be doing something like that too. But it is still pretty complicated. Whenever this ships to store, they'll have the 40GB model (it will be discontinued but probably still in stores), the "old" 80GB model (still bundled with MGS4?), and the new 80GB model. I don't particularly care either personally, but it does make things difficult when discussing PS3 models with potential buyers. And yeah, I agree that MS isn't helping either. I was basically referring to the SKUs for both systems as a "SKU mess." A lot of PS3 owners did buy the game. I forgot how much it sold exactly, but probably in the 3M-5M range, and possibly more. Greatest Hits status should help that out too. In comparison to Gears or other games like COD4 though (even just on PS3), not many people played it. I think it is a game all PS3 owners should check out for sure. I had some issues with it, but it didn't really keep it from being a great game IMO. Keep in mind it isn't as much of a shooter as Resistance, COD, or some of these other games. Not exactly sure how to describe it without getting too wordy, but let's just say that it wouldn't make sense to add multiplayer to the game or possibly even coop. I think I did a review in the review thread IIRC.
I agree with RC, as a pure shooter, Bioshock is nothing special. It's got some interesting powers, especially the telekinesis (throwing crap at badguys is way more fun than it should be) but it's more about the gameplay experience than the game itself.
Haha...great timing by JD2010. How much are HD rentals for "older" movies on other services? Some of the newer, big releases on the PSN store cost $6 to rent (Cloverfield, 10,000 BC, etc.), but I noticed a lot of the other movies I was interested in were $4.50 which seems OK to me (probably prefer $4, but whatever). A lot of them cost $10 to buy too. I just remember that when Ghost Rider was showed off, it cost $6 to rent in HD and $13 to buy. Strangely enough, I didn't even see an option to rent Ghost Rider, although you can still buy it for $13. I wasn't really interested in a video service, but I got to admit that it is pretty tempting when you see some of these movies readily available to watch. Fortunately, I don't have any money in my wallet.
Sony is being smart, they are letting us buy movies only in SD, making blu-ray still the destination for the HD experience. And the progressive downloading is SWEET. You get to watch a movie as it downloads, so you don't have to wait.
