ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Why is it called FINAL fantasy? can they FINALLY stop making it??!! the big news is the NETFLIX on your 360! Sweet, now I can be even lazier and not go to the mailbox. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/events/e32008/articles/0714-netflixteamup.htm Xbox 360 and Netflix Team Up Published July 14, 2008 Los Angeles—An exciting new home theater experience is coming to living rooms this holiday season. At E3, Microsoft and Netflix, the world's largest online movie rental service, today unveiled an exclusive partnership to offer the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to your television via Xbox 360®. Xbox 360 will be the only game system that lets you instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix. This movie-watching innovation will be available to Xbox LIVE® Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers, and will let those users enjoy streaming movies from Netflix on Xbox LIVE at no additional cost.
While the announcement definitely turned my head and probably affected me a little more than it should, in the end I wasn't too surprised by it. Square-Enix have been constantly talking about financial issues and the need to expand globally, so this is a logical move for them in the end I still don't regret returning my 360 after one week though. Getting multiple disc read errors on the first day with a $400 purchase was simply too ridiculous to stomach
I'm pretty shocked that people are shocked. who cares! its not like its Gran Turismo or SingStar. Phantasy Star >>>>> Final Fantasy there, I said it.
From a business standpoint, it makes sense. Of course, it would make even more sense to ditch the 360/PS3, and just develop exclusively for the DS and Wii. What surprises me is that SE never really even hinted at this until today. Sure, the thought has crossed my mind several times, but when they come out and say FF13 is exclusive to the PS3 every 6 months or so, you kind of take their word for it, forgetting what exactly would be logical. That actually does bother me to a degree, and I have lost a little respect towards SE about that. I don't have a problem with them putting out the game on the 360 (more people get to play it after all), but don't promote it as a PS3 exclusive for 3 years (or whatever) and then end up releasing it on both platforms. I didn't buy a PS3 just for FF13, but I'm sure many people did. I figured the new FF MMO would go to both consoles to help their sales, or even some new FF game, but not FF13. I'm actually surprised Sony got MGS4 but not FF13. edit:Of course, with this news, a MGS4 360 port isn't too unlikely...although a lot of changes will have to be made. FF is bigger than Singstar and arguably as big as GT. Maybe even bigger since whatever platform SE supports, most other JRPG companies will support as well.
That Xbox Avatar system looks like a more mature version of the Miis, and a less realistic version of PSHome. I don't really get the final fantasy hype, I am not an RPG gamer and will never be one, I've never played any final fantasy on PS2 and won't on the PS3. I'm interested in how dynamic fable 2 is going to be, and Gears of War looked ok but it's too over-the-top for my liking. I also like Lips, but everything else on the exclusive side was meh.
Hmm...apparently they'll finish up development on the Japanese PS3 version, and then start on the US/Europe localization and start porting to the 360. Not sure how quickly they can make a good port in that time unless they wait to release the PS3 version whenever the 360 version is done...which would make me kind of mad. I guess the localization could take a long time though. Apparently the 360 version may not be released at all in Japan (due to install base...install base also being the reason why it will be released on the 360 in the West). That changes things slightly I guess. FF vs 13 is still PS3 exclusive...right now anyway.
Gears looks awesome
So it's a TIMED exclusive? I was expecting that, because at the press conference they didn't actually say that it will be releasing at the same time as the PS3 version. When they announced GTAIV on 360 they kept saying that it will be released at the same time. and Xbox has given up on Japan what a insult to Japanese gamers.
While the Wii is leading the market right now, what percentage of those people would actually fall into FF's target audience? Especially considering that developing it for the Wii would result in a completely different game that will most likely be stripped of what drew many people into FF13 into the first place. Not to mention that this is ignoring what the developers themselves want to create in the first place: a next gen game. Personally, I'm more concerned about how well the game will be made now that it's going to be multiplatform. Call of Duty 4 was amazing for both consoles (I didn't buy it though lol), I am hoping that after all that talk of maximizing the power of the PS3, FF13 won't suffer in quality now that it's no longer an exclusive
Timed-exclusive in Japan (or just plain PS3 exclusive, not even sure). Releases on both platforms in the West at the same time AFAIK. I was half-joking with that, although with DQIX, who knows. Agreed.
Didn't MGS4 take up a ridiculous amount of space on a Blu Ray disc? Like multiple DVDs worth? Can anyone point me toward some Fallout 3 vids? I was thinking of picking up the Fallout 1 and 2 dual pack...I haven't played those two games yet; would it be worth my time to play them now?
Yeah, but I'm guessing they can put the game out on multiple discs on the 360. They'd have to change some codec sequences as well as the controls for some boss fights though, and they'd have to get rid of some easter eggs IIRC. Maybe some other things too, can't remember offhand. Don't know if they could use the PS1 and PS2 MGS flashbacks. Oh wait...guess there is one thing that would require some work (might be impossible), although I guess they could just drop it (more of an easter egg/fanservice than something important to gameplay).
Of course, since Resident Evil is well, Resident Evil....
But, I am really looking to the hybrid style type of Fallout 3. Plus its basically built on the Oblivion engine, which I enjoyed, sooooo.......
Gosh, you have a 360 and you're reacting to this news like it's a bad thing. I have a 360 and am excited, since this means I don't have to purchase a PS3. (something I was going to do for this game) Now with the money I've saved, I might just go purchase Street Fighter 2 and then SF2HD when it comes out!
there was nothing about street fighter 4! another must have game. Resident Evil 5 looked good, but you know that cause Capcom is awesome. maybe i'll rent this game since all the jrpgers are so giddy about it. i'd much rather have them release another Baulder's Gate game.
Other than it having the FF name, there's not even much to be giddy about. I think Apollo Creed and I touched on this earlier, but they've basically just showed the same CG trailer in the last 2-3 years. I haven't checked out the trailer they showed at the conference (waiting for HD version), but from afar, it looked like pretty much the same stuff they've been showing. Not much info for the game itself, and of course no gameplay shown yet. Of course, I haven't really been disappointed in a main FF game in a long time (if ever), so stuff like that is why people are excited about it. Have you ever played a FF game? It would be funny if you actually liked it. Maybe we can get you to try out the JRPGs from Atlus and Nippon Ichi. BTW, have you checked out Dragon Age? It isn't a new Baldur's Gate, but probably (hopefully?) not a bad alternative.
