I agree, almost all of the main specs for the PS3 doubled that of the Xbox360.

Nintendo's press release for the Revolution.
    http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=02ea1a40-ac09-4cdf-9548-91e5a4e78746&page=home

Seems like its going to be lacking in power and the only new feature is the ability to download old games. Personally I was hoping for something a bit more revolutionary.

Well, it is online, too. It would freaking awesome if you could play old school games online, but I can't see that happening. The press release just gives you the feeling that the gaming world won't change this generation.

PS3 will still probably be the best, with Microsoft slowly gaining and Nintendo comfotable in third, but making money. It will still be the best console for younger kids, and, frankly, if it is the cheapest, the ability to play all of the orignial games, may appeal to an older gamer, who won't play it predominantly, but may buy the system anyway.

I think Nintendo will always suffer from the stigma attached to it that XBox and PS don't have, and that is most real gamers (especially the 16+ crowd) prefer a more 'mature' faming platform like the PS or the XBox, Nintendo is, IMO, more aimed at the younger kids who enjoy Super Mario and other kid-friendly games.

In that sense, I just don't think that Nintendo can ever compete head-to-head with Sony or Microsoft. Their target audience seems to be a younger bunch.

I hope Sega would make a comeback and make a top-notch platform that can compete head to head with the PS3 and Xbox 360. They used to have the best systems back in the day, and to this day I still don't fully understand why the Dreamcast tanked, it was pretty revolutionary at the time it debuted. May be the game-makers were just biased towards the PS1 and had no interest in working with Sega to develop games for the Dreamcast.

Actually I rather have Sega keep on concentrating on making great games, thats what they're best at. Genesis was doomed when the SuperNes came out and Dreamcast was sadly doomed when the PS2 game out. Sega never got enough 3rd party support to keep up with the rest.

According to the specs of each consoles, the X-box seems to be always in the middle of the 3 in terms of cpu power.

In the current generation, the power of each consoles goes like this: GameCube>X-Box>PS2

In the next generation it goes like this: PS3>X-Box360>Revolution.

assuming you only want to / can buy one of these systems, is there any reason to choose the xbox 360 over the ps3?

Leisure Suit Larry: VD Edition should change that stigma.

Damn! I just finished watching the X Box 360 intro at the E3 (the clip was a bit over an hour long), and judging by what the PS3 games will look like, PS3 is probably going to destroy the XBox is sales!

Man, the PS3 graphics look nothing short of astonishing, almost life-like:eek:

Again, does anyone here work for Sony and can get me a PS3 sooner than its release date? I would be willing to pay 2 grands for it!

I have to say....as a Console player all my life XBox Live and how easy it s to use is a big plus.

If Sony could equal the easy of use with their online gaming....it would be awesome.

I think with the next gen systems the "Eye Toy" cameras will have a much bigger role in the system.

Imagine being able to take your picture and then paste your face into a game so that YOU were there on the screen and in the game.

How about a boxing game where you put the controller down and you shadow box infront of the camera to fight in the game.

Ive been playing console games since the days on Pong. Ive moved on from buying Madden ever year.....I now look for the very best gaming experiences.

There is one game Im looking forward to with these next gen systems.....

The next GTA game. How good is that going to be!

Alot of people wonder what the next GTA character will be. Imagine if you start the game, put your face on the character and YOU were the next GTA character.

    I cant wait! :D

I am still not so familiar with the PS3 features besides game playing, but one thing the XBox might have over the PS3 is its other features that seem to make it more of an all-around entertainment system.

however, I doubt that real gamers will prefer the XBox over the PS3, unless there is a specific game you like that is exclusively made for XBox.

I will probably buy both, but I am more interested in the PS3.

    From the Gamespot article:
Sony seems to be putting some nice stuff into the PS3 as well. From the same article from above:
So for a company that keeps talking about the HD era, Sony seems to offer a lot more in that area, especially the whole Blu-ray/HD-DVD thing gets worked out (PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE!!!!).

    ??? ???

Where'd you get that from? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you...

Also, like you said, I believe all those pics shown in your later post are all in realtime, but I found out today that not all the demos were (which makes sense). It seems like the Killzone demo and the heavenly Sword trailer were either pre-rendered, or not really gameplay. A dev from Heavenly Sword basically said that their presentation was somewhere in between, although the final product should look just as good, if not better. Here's some stuff from Mark Rein of Epic:
I'm just happy that depsite what appears to be a powerful piece of hardware, the PS3 should not be too difficult to develop games for. I wonder what Epic will be able to come up with once they start optimizing everything for the PS3 and using Cell more efficiently.

Real quick impressions of what I've seen from the Revolution earlier today. Basically, a bit of a dud. Like I said earlier, I like the design and I guess it is pretty cool that Nintendo wants to make it really small. Nothing else they said really stuck out to me though. The NES/SNES/N64 stuff is pretty cool, but I don't think it will sell the console to people who are considering the console as a possible purchase. Obviously, it sounds like they have some more up their sleeve that they'll reveal later, but as of now, it seems like Sony has wowed my the most.

Time for some more downloading and reading...:)
