Hence Green's original assertion of the possible correlation of religion and said possibility.

I keep thinking of C Heston's line from Planet of the Apes.

"I can't help but think there's something out there better than man. There’s got to be!".

I think if they are able to develop technology to reach out to interstellar distances, they would have to be peaceful. No way a civilization could survive with that sort of power without a very mature, peaceful nature. Maybe they'd be nice enough to teach us how to be as well, because we definitely need it.

They could instead just be extremely xenophobic, like the people of Cricket in Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Unless you are a 700 club christian or think John Ashcroft is a man of god sent from above; I would think that the existance of life through out the universe would deepen and expand your faith. I, for one, hope that god is MUCH larger than the jelaous, exclusive one that evangelics love to beat us about the head with. See: C.S. Lewis and Madeline L'Engle.

I agree. I think that finding alien life in no way changes the Jesus message, or the principles of love your enemy, etc.

    Obviously, it deepens it.

what few people know is that Buddha himself cateogorically rejected the idea of both an afterlife and soul. all that stuff were "adaptions" made by his followers.

going from a general religion standpoint (this does not reflect my opinion), Christianity/Bible does not reconize other religions such as Hindu and Islamic practices, but it does reconize Judism.

They don't have to have a "Jesus" for them. They might have one, they might not. Who really knows

Maybe God created other worlds out there. Maybe he didn't need to send his son to those.

Perhaps those worlds never sinned in the first place and they live in paradise.

    Hmmm.

It is religious fiction, but C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy starting with "Out of the Silent Planet" is pretty darn good for this kind of discussion. I recommend it.
