Give it a few mins and you'll have swoly-d coming here to tell us how Beckham sucks, is on the bench for the Galaxy, has no talent, etc.

:D I love it how you remember me. :D

Beckham still couldn't score when he had the chance and couldn't get his team to manufacture a goal, either. Just like that other Swedish spoiled brat playing against us yesterday, he sucks and is a big crybaby no matter what you say about me. :p He will suck again in L.A. ... while you continue to defend our rival. Nice.

HeWhoIsLunchbox, somehow MLS has managed to tweak the RULES OF THE GAME again, but there should NOT be 1) a rest break between the two extra 15-minute halves, or 2) stoppage time. No other leagues do what I saw at Robertson yesterday. I started whistling at 15:00 for the ref to call the first extra period and people followed my clue. He shouldn't have given them more time. That's reserved only for the longer periods.

Also, if you are tied after 120 minutes, it's called "Kicks from the penalty spot", not "Penalty Kicks."

Acronyms are different than names... you can argue your baseball RBI's to runs-batted-in when someone calls them something else.

It's always been a weekend, and there are people who call it end of the week, too, so that is what they choose to do, Fyreball.

There's no argument about something that doesn't have a law, but when you have something with a law, you must respect it or accept being ridiculed by people who actually know the name and definition.

"Penalty Kicks" are to penalize an infraction... kicks from the penalty spot are to determine a winner.

Got any more rebuttals? Kicks from the penalty spot. :D

You've got it wrong about the extra-time thing. It's not an MLS rule, it's up to the referee's discretion. Players are not allowed to leave the field because the game isn't over, but it's ALWAYS the case, no matter where, there is a small minute or two break from the end of the game before the first extra time, and a little shorter one before the second extra time. Basically, the breaks aren't written in the rule book (the laws of the game don't cover everything in detail) and it's all up to when the referee blows the whistle. Those dudes are FIFA qualified officials. They could ref a world cup final if they had to. They know what they are doing.

When i played soccer in tournaments and stuff here, the refs would be in a hurry, and other than small water breaks, he had a schedule to stick to because usually the next game was later that day or another team was waiting to use the field. Even in big tournaments, champions league, whatever, there is ALWAYS a commercial break between the end of Normal time and the beginning of extra time.

^ So, it's about commercials now? Again, more North American rules to alienate the world fanbase. There shouldn't be a break betweek the two extra times because the only thing that happens is for the referee to wait for the goalkeepers to switch goals. Watch a World Cup game and tell me if referees actually wait 1 or 2 minutes like it happened yesterday. I know they're FIFA refs at MLS games, but this shouldn't happen. There are no "scheduled later" games at professional matches.

Maybe there is a break after the end of regulation at the ref's discretion, but the halves for extra time should be exactly 15 minutes each with no break in between. Again, read that entire LAWS of THE GAME rulebook I posted.
I agree that they are "foul shots" because a team commits a foul, but... what do you call them when it's because of illegal defense and not a "foul"?

i was really just bullsittin about the penalty kicks
but irregardless (purposely done) of the law in the book is more so the usage of the phrase
the point about free throws is a more accurate description
the spot in the goal box is called the penalty shot spot (not the description form the book mormom laws) either way it is a mark for the purpose of penalty shots, when a game is tied at the end of overtime they shoot from this same spot, it's a phrase technicalities aside, i call it a soccer game, one to zero, a field

I've played the game for 30 years. I call it penalty kicks. People I play with call it penalty kicks. I've been involved in many penalty kick shootouts.

Sure. :D Continue to be wrong if you want. No one is going to twist your arm or shoot you if you call something another way, but... you're still wrong. It's up to you... even if someone tells you that it's not what they're called. For 30+ years you will continue to be wrong and so will the people with whom you play. It's no big deal, really, just 3 replies from me.

    I guess you got me, K mf G. :p

Yes I'll continue to defend a player I like and respect on the LA Galaxy while still supporting the Houston Dynamo(my MLS team).

The less said about this the better. You're truly special.
