You must have missed the years prior to Beckham when they came over in droves.
Beckham's arrival in MLS led to more exposure for the league than they ever had, both domestically and overseas. Greater leverage in tv rights negotiation and increased ownership interest. Amongst other things.

Folks need to stop jumping onto the easy "hate David Beckham... all hype" trail.

Landon Donovan is a hero to the USA but a villain to Houston.

Like him when he plays for the yanks, but dislike him with the galaxy. It's like Temo Blanco plays for El Tri and they love him. But when he plays for Club America, they hated and despised him. Same thing with Wayne Rooney, the English fans like him when he plays for England but they don't like him when he plays with Man U. Right now after what happened last night, I don't know, it's like I'm flip-flopping. You like the guy that plays for your country but you hate him when he plays for a rival club.

Well on the plus side the ESPN announcers gave me the feeling of being in the big middle of an LA Galaxy supporters group, without having to actually go to that cesspool L.A, or root for the Galaxy. They did everything but genuflect toward Beckham, Donovan and Keene.

Sadly, the intelligence and class level of this thread went in the toilet with some posters. Just as bad, if not worse, than those who were stupidly throwing things on the field last night.

"Duh...he's gay!" How do you know this? What? You don't? Interesting. Maybe this is a classic "takes one to know one" situation?

"He couldn't win it without help!" Is that even though he previously won titles w/o help and with a team that would become the Dynamo.

"Beckham is a douche!" Why is that, exactly? You don't like his hair? What does that have to do with him being one of the best passers/crossers this game has ever seen? Yeah, he commits some crazy fouls and probably should have gotten 2 yellows last night. I don't blame the ref for not being quick with the cards in a championship game.

    blah blah blah

The Galaxy were the better team. Landon Donovan is a world class player and scored on a world class play. David Beckham has done more for this league off the field in 5 years than any other player has done for it in it's history...and now he's got a title, too.

It was a great run by our boys in Orange. I'm looking forward to next season in the new stadium and to see this team grow. Hopefully, they can bring in some depth and some more help in the midfield. Ching isn't long for this league and neither is Davis. They need to be better prepared than they were when Holden and Clark left.

Who was his first one with again? Oh right the phenom DRo was in his prime and on his team amongst some other people who will remain nameless. In either set he had a group of stars behind him.

Great season and do believe if BradD were healthy, it would have been a different game...

Slow dragging game but wish the outcome were different...as many times as LA had a chance to score, we were lucky it was this close...MLS got what they wanted...

Alrighty then. Let's go to the title with San Jose.
DeRo was in his prime but keep in mind he came off the bench in the final while Donovan started and scored. Donovan had a veteran defense and midfield in support but to infer that he only won because he had a group of stars behind him is beyond silly. From the moment he returned to MLS from his first stint at Leverkusen, Donovan was arguably the star with the Earthquakes. (No disrespect to DeRo). The San Jose squad was a veteran one but to state they were star-laden at the time is nonsense. If anything I'd give credit to both Frank Yallop and Dom. Kinnear for turning them into a heckuva team capable of winning the MLS cup.

You say "in either set he had a group of stars behind him". You do know Landon has won more than TWO MLS titles right?
His second one was with a team definitely more inferior to the SJ team in '03 and this season's Galaxy team, plus they were coached by one of the worst coaches/managers in U.S. Soccer-Steve Sampson.

Thank you! You've basically summed up what I mentioned earlier.
You make great points on the team moving forward. It looks like Ashe and Colin Clark will be covers for Davis as the years go by and Bruin will be expected to contribute more once Chingy steps aside but they'll need to hit the lottery with regards to a capable foreign striker at some point because Costly is not the answer and they keep striking out with that. They did well with the Jamaican crew(mainly Lovel and Jermaine, we'll see if we get more out of Watson next season).

Defense looks good moving forward. ERob will prolly retire in next two seasons, if Geoff either moves to Europe or up to midfield then Jermaine, Boswell and Hainault are capable while Hunter Freeman and Kofi Sarkodie are solid pieces at Right back. Apart from striker, the other position of concern is left back to me.

I'm suprised and will be pissed if they claim Cruz. In the chron fanblog they said expensive contracts like chings won't get claimed,so pretty sure he ain't going anywhere. However, if he does then it'll be bittersweet because it'll allow bruin to play
