AWESOME *****! Rail next? CHRON.com: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/soc/6929789.html Sounds a little "weaker" than the Yahoo! story.
hrmph. No top-ten city is a "complete sports city" without NHL hockey. Don't get me wrong: I've been hoping the Dynamo would get their stadium and I'm happy to see it happen. But I want me some NHL in H-town.
2 Championships not good enough for ya? What are you saying about the Dynamo's 2 championships or the Rockets' 2 championships?
considering there is no team, that is understandable. If we had a hockey team, I would follow them. But like any other sport, I only follow my teams, I don't watch teams that are not my own.
We have had a stadium to put a NHL team here for 7 years now and nothing has even come close. My hope for the NHL to Houston is fading fast. Now that we are getting the Dynamo a stadium, it can also house a MLL (Lacrosse) franchise. They are trying to expand more out west and a stadium right next to downtown is perfect. Dallas is trying to get one in Frisco, might as well throw one here in a better location. We either steal Dallas' bid for one or we both get one and the MLL gets automatic rivals whether they want us to be or not. I like both options myself. I know an NHL franchise would be better but a MLL team after this stadium gets built is a much more realistic hope. We should be putting more attention on MLL than NHL; well making sure the Dynamo stadium is a done deal, then MLL. TSU football, Dynamo soccer and Major League Lacrosse all only play once a week and when you throw in Womens soccer tournaments that are suppose to be held there occasionally it already shows that the stadium is a good idea and will help the east side.
Wow - I have never even *heard* of MLL. Am I that disconnected from reality, or is it simply not well exposed in this area? I assume it's bigger in the northeast?
It's not even that big in the northeast...especially relative to the indoor National Lacrosse League. When I lived in the DC area, I went to a couple of Bayhawks games, but I prefer the indoor game.
The city council approved the plan this morning. The county will probably be voting next week when they meet.
Does the deal still involve TSU playing home games at this stadium. I'm not entirely crazy about having football markings on the field for playoff games in October...
