the pavillions and city centre are nice projects, but the real exciting ones imo are BLVD Place, Regent Square, River Oaks District, West Ave., One Park Place, Main Place (new 47 story downtown office building), Discovery Tower (new 31 story downtown office tower on Discovery Green), and the potential 80+ story highrise on Post Oak and Richmond.

searching around for info on all these new projects lead me here.

very interesting. exciting times for our great city... http://www.towrs.com/wiki/index.php/New_Projects_In_Houston,_Texas

follow up question. is there a map somewhere with the neighborhood breakdown? like montrose vs the heights and so forth? midtown, downtown, uptown. where does one begin and the other end?

    City of Houston site:
    Houston Super Neighborhoods

There's also info on most of them on wikipedia, some with maps and some without.
    Wiki - Midtown

Searching for "houston super neighborhoods" on google will also give you some more results.

Surprisingly enough they're still negotiating, I'm starting to get the feeling that a couple of years from now they'll still be negotiating. Somebody from the city said that they were close enough to a deal that they didn't need a deadline. And they have a design firm hired and have started taking bids from developers.

According to our pals at Big Soccer, the Dynamo and the city have said that a time table is no longer needed as so much progress has been made. Icon Venue Group is the group doing the development. Here are some other projects they've done:

    Toyota Park (Chicago Fire)

Dick's Sporting Goods Park (Colorado Rapids)

Home Depot Center (Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA)

Real Salt Lake Stadium (Under construction, will open later this season)

Red Bull Park (Soon to break ground)

    Sprint Center (Kansas City Arena)

They've done tons of other projects including arenas for the Phoenix Coyotes, New Jersey Devils, and soon-to-be Pittsburgh Penguins for the NHL. Among even more things, they did Invesco Field in Denver and the impressive O2 Arena in London, which was built inside of the Millennium Dome. I hope that their able to finalize the deal in the coming weeks and we can move on to construction. This is a project that will benefit Houston on the whole, not only the Dynamo. A new stadium is likely to attract international matches that, unlike Mexico/US games, would not fill Reliant Stadium. The US National Teams are likely to train there occasionally and as tournaments like Superliga and CONCACAF grow with the MLS, it will generate more and more revenue while helping to revitalize a DEAD section of town.

As long as there's no stage I'll be happy, but something like RBNY would be awesome. :D

No one else has said anything about this stadium helping to bring a Lacross team (MLL). I went to their site and they have expressed interest in expanding more out west. Dallas is one of the city's named for consideration. With the Dynamo stadium being in downtown and Dallas' being in Frisco, could we land a MLL team first? I have never seen a Lacross game live but if we got a team I would make it out to some games, they only play once a week. Tix shouldn't be too bad.

This seems like political posturing on Bill White's part. He probably has his eyes set on state political office sometime in the future and he wants to be able to say that he didn't spend money on the Dynamo stadium when he does. However, I think this is to his detriment. The stadium would revitalize a part of town that is dead (I live 3 miles away, deeper in the East End, from the proposed site and see the condition constantly) and breathe new life into the East End. Also, what people fail to see is that it would host events other than just MLS games. Both the USA and Mexican national teams could play there (not against each other, it'd be too small) and tournaments could be held. A whole swath of restaurants and bars could be built there, also servicing places like Warehouse Live and the Meridian.

A stadium would be used by a lot more people than Discovery Green, which millions of city dollars were spent on. Something like the park is purely aesthetic, while a stadium could be both aesthetic and economically smart for the city. Here's hoping that they finally get the negotiating right and we get to keep the HOUSTON (not Sugarland) Dynamo.
