I hate how he calls everyone and everything related to his show "mighty." Like the "Mighty Producer." The guy just comes off sounding like a complete tool. Sucks, because I think everyone else on 790 now is great. It would be an unbelievably difficult choice to pick who the biggest jerkoff is in sports radio in this town. Would be a photo finish between Gwinn, Rich Lord, and John Lopez.
I bothers me that he has no real insight to any actual information coming either from players, people in the organizations or scouts/agents. He's just a guy who wants to have this anti-local attitude. Most local raido guys have connections with inside information or work to try to get it. This guy just wakes up in the morning and spews his lame takes. I can understand someone who isn't from here wanting to give an outsiders opinion of local teams, but he goes overboard with it. That kind of stuff may work on a national radio level, but for local radio, people want to here insight from thier teams and host who care as much about it as the caller does.
Does anyone know the deal with Lopez saying something racial this week, I've heard a few callers bring it up but haven't heard the actual comment?
You guys are forgetting the biggest douche. Obviously Gwinn is the second but this guy takes the cake. I give you Josh Innes.
With gwinn and Innes, Houston talk radio is just about dead between 10-12. Between Gwinn's 'Rush Limbaugh of sports' style and Madden laugh and Innes' 'I'm a fratboy I swear hold on let me make this 30 year old chick flick reference real quick' I thank God for podcasts.
And for you young'uns, this was the movie he parodied his show's name after. This man is incredibly original and clever... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8Su6JW2K_Kg?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8Su6JW2K_Kg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
He is pretty bad and his sports knowledge is pretty horrible. His callers are actually worst than him. He hangs up on callers who are actually intelligent and call him out. His show seems to attract the worst callers in Houston. I think we get it...you don't like the guy.
There is a difference between being unbias and Just searching out the least popular opinion in order to seem 'controversal' Rocket River
Basically, Josh Innes was doing a pretty spot-on impersonation of Michael Irvin (right down to the accent), and Titan Rick (the absolute biggest &*$%ing moron in the entire city of Houston) calls in, and says that it's racist bigotry for Josh to be doing that. For some reason, John Lopez feels like Titan Douche is talking to HIM, and gets into it with Rick. Seriously, if there was a way to take all the members of that conversation, and drown them, I would be the happiest person on the planet. As dumb as every one of these radio hosts is, Titan Rick is the worst. Somebody seriously needs to punch this guy in the face repeatedly until he promises to either move to Tennessee, or disconnect his phone line. On another note, for some reason, somebody else who kinda rubs me the wrong way is Robert Hensley. He's not overly bad or anything, I just get annoyed when he wishy-washies his way out of EVER having a take on anything. He's just SO politically correct, and SO neutral about every little thing. He just comes off as being sniveling, and it's annoying to me. But again, he's light years better than Gwinn's douchebaggery.
I can't believe my initial impression of him was positive. He is, indeed, awful. I now listen to NPR or Colin Cowherd from 10-11.
I think people who have famous talk radio monickers for themselves as callers are pretty much douchebags.
Apparently there was a bit that poked fun at some black athlete. I forget who. Well titanrick calls and says that he is offended. I didnt hear the bit, but Lopez said "We are just mocking a culture" which im sure is not what he intended to say and was cleared up by vandameer. then titan rick kept talking about it and how its so racist and then lopez took exception because he is hispanic and as with most of us who are minorities, has encountered some racism. Lopez then goes on to say that his grandma picked cotton for her entire life and took exception to be called a racist. Then titan rick says that there this "racism" wouldnt have happened if there were more blacks in radio, he mentioned andre ware (who is way too talented to be on a morning radio station). Then it got really awkard and I changed it to Matt and Adam which was in commercials. Only when 790 is in commercials do I ever switch back to 610. I thought titan rick over reacted. hes a d bag but then again lopez just said the wrong thing
